AJ just go to Dallas Mustang if you need the tune done..they are local and an advertiser on the site.

I would not WOULD NOT got to HENNESSEY...if you want some insight go to the viperclub sight and read some of the post on what he has done over there...after some of the stories I don't care if he has turned around he will never see one of my cars.

Matt

Matt, with all due respect you should not cut up a guy on this forum like that based on some hearsay from another forum. I'd be willing to bet Hennessey has had issues on their installs but I'd also be willing to bet so has Dallas Mustang! Heck, did you know that Hennessey owns the standing mile record with it's twin turbo 1000 HP Viper? Things do break you know when you're putting up those kind of numbers. The early GT's had some heavy duty issues but Ford resolved them and we kept buying. If everyone's attitude was not to give the company the benefit of the doubt, Ford would have a lot of unsold GT's on their hands! Hennessey DOES a good job, give 'em a break.

Dan, the issues referred to are not tuning issues. You should read about them. One of our members can relate the actual experiences he had, but he may not want to revisit the issues yet another time.

Thanks Bart for the feedback! Look, we're all car guys and business is business. Unfortunately we've all had to deal with B.S. from time to time and I can appreciate someone looking out for a fellow member of this forum, I just wish it would be done more discreetly as to not affect someone's livelyhood! Also it was mentioned that the commentary came from the Viper forum, a place that I've been after having owned two Vipers. My personal experience is to hold Hennessey in high regard, but to each his own...Thanks, Dan

Good reading Bart, but it doesn't change my opinion! People still buy Ford's, Chevy's and Chrysler's and we all know a few #$%^@^%&% things have been said about them, right? It's part of the business world to on occasion piss somebody off or even worse do them an injustice, but I don't believe in blowing a hole in someone's ship. Dan

Believe me the hole was blown in the ship long ago, and it sure wasn't done by Bart! Go take a pole on the viper site with his past customers and see what the response is.

Dan I can appreciate that you hold John in high regards...but this is a site for people to learn from and while some of us have Vipers others might not and need to be informed. I personally have never dealt with Hennessey but what I have read has nothing to do with his tunning.

Good luck to you with anyone you chose..again I hope everyone makes up their own mind about any company...Viper alley hates RSI but I have a friend that loves them...everyone like Heffner or seems to.

Again its just about giving out information...not cutting people up..and yes as a business person he will run into some people that will let loose on him just for a vendeta or to try and get something out of him..then internet is a wonderful tool.

I'll leave it at that...AJ make sure and be there on the 9th...we haven't seen you in a while.

Byeenzo, call John Hennessey in Houston! Good guy and reliable company. He did a blue '05 GT and that car sounds and performs fantastic. Here's the site:

My wet dream is beining Hennessey's lawyer, has to pay pretty good.... lots of unhappy customers...

Tune

I must step in here and explain a bit further on the subject of the 16lbs and tune.

The earlier post with the explanation was very good.. Let me explain a bit further using numbers that I have seen.

A stock GT will "Normally" make 510-540RWHP in stock trim with 450-480TQ.

I have datalogged several stock GT's and the timing from Ford is very conservative.. But that is a good thing since we know what some of these cars go thru!

Adding more boost creates more heat which raises the Downstream temps that are normally in the 110-130deg F to in the 150's!!

Once the downstreams get above 150 F the PCM looks to the ACT (Air Coolant Temperature) Spark retard table and begins retarding spark.

So the PCM attempts to stop the destruction before it happens which is a good thing but then you are reducing spark which is reducing power and you dont make much more than you did stock!

I know that me and most of the SCT tuners lower the Fan on/off times to help cool things which helps with the downstream temps. This CAN NOT be overlooked and Piko can vouch for the cooler running temps and lower Downstream temps.

As for how much timing a GT will tolerate on Pump gas is a question of how it is being driven and what "Pump" gas is being used. Although I will not divulge the timing we have safely run on pump gas I will say that it is more than the stock table would have allowed..

With all that being said, you can RUN a 16lbs pulley without being tuned but the reason it MUST have a tune is that the A/F (Air Fuel) MUST be at or below 12.0:1. It will be above that with no tune and that is why I would get a tuner or have it tuned to ensure that you are safe.

Dallas Mustang/ Hennessy/ Ken @ MD/ or any of the other SCT Dealers including us at HP can get you taken care of.

Above the HP levels generated by a 16psi pulley, several other things come into play and if anyone wants to know more just ask!!!

Thanks for posting info about air temps, I have always wondered. What about improving the air/water intercoolers ability to bring down air temps?
I read somewhere that ever 4 deg centigrade = 1% hp if tuned properly

What happens to iat after change to turbos and more boost?

Water alone cools better than almost anthing else, do you run h20 only in intercooler?

Downstream Temps

Ahh good question about the Turbo setup!! The downstream temps actually went DOWN 13 degrees which I attribute to the removal of the Supercharger (Transfer of heat) and 18 degrees thru the pulls even on 22psi!!

Documentation and the datalogs were passed to the great guys at Ford while we were there!

There isnt much room for a larger Heat Exchanger but I have two things in the works that I hope to get implemented.. One is a phenolic spacer between the inlet top and the intake and the other is a larger reservoir cooler to help with the anticipated 28-30psi!!!

Water is in the intercooler reservoir at the moment, but we have tried a mix and there wasnt a significant difference.

Thanks, have you had good luck with stronger clutch, how do you get power to pavement.

Clutch

We went thru several cycles but what we have in there now is excellent!! Ask any of the riders from the Rally!!

The clutch in there now is as smooth as the stocker but holds the 900lbs of TQ without a whimper.

The rear sports the Hoosier Radials. NOT for the rain!

Hi Tony - good to hear you.

That clutch in Joe's car is as smooth as silk. More importantly I saw the car get punished day and night, time after time ( at the Rally ) with no effect on the whole car whatsoever!

Tony and Joe gave rocket rides to anyone who requested ( which was probably everyone there) and to some people, more than one.
That car and clutch are unbelieveably tough.

Hey Tony have you had any more input about Joe's second gear popping out? That must be a tough tranny to be able to deal with it when it happens.
