Isn’t the safety wire cutting into the grommet? Maybe just the way the photo was taken.

I lightly marked the top surround with a marker. I believe you can see the black marks. Therefore the original alignment was maintained.

I just installed one side of the recommended grommet by TORQJNKY into the cable. I didn’t use spit lol,but armor all and everything connected nicely. Did you have to cut the slit to slide the cable in or do they come already prepped. Edit: I see you slid it in.

I am thinking about doing the same on the passenger side. Driver side was easy. I ordered an OEM set but wandering how long those plastic insert guides will last. Those available have probably been sitting on the shelves for a long time.

If you have not already done so,check the power steering hose. Many are starting to leak. There is a thread ‘power steering hose” which has more info on the issue.

Thx for the heads up; just grabbed a set while available. In the interim, I did the zip lock fix for piece of mind.

There is a unit on eBay. Is the cable release kit no longer available from Ford?

I had mine refurbished and did not have to remove the emblem from the airbag trim/module. They did it by taping up the module/trim. You might check if removal is necessary.

On the other hand Gen 1 GTs are doing very well. Low mileage one on BAT sitting at 500k with more days of AUCTION left.

You can carefully pry the plastic covers off with some upholstery tools. First work on the two guides located closest the edge of the fender. Push down on the middle to clear the top clip…then the bottom up. Subsequently move the piece out of the remaining clips. See pic.

The clamshell stop you show came with 2005 and early 2006 GTs. Subsequently 2006 models came with the springs. Try Fordpartsgiant.com

Why not replace them with the springs?

Ford parts Giant shows a dual clutch assembly in stock…..if this is the correct part # 4G7Z-7B546-BA

I have a new one in it’s original box which I occasionally take out to inspect; no deterioration whatsoever (I do store inside the house).
