20 years ago today I bought my first super car. Still have my 2005 white/blue FGT. 65k miles of fun and adventures. Bought at King Charlie Hilliard Ford in Fort Worth…now an Autonation dealership. The car predates my wife 😂
Lots of other cars have come and gone. It’s a constant.
Reminds me of an OB-Gyn joke…. Gyn docs know four operations…take out the uterus from above, take out the uterus from below, cut the left ureter, cut the right ureter…
Thanks to TORQJNKY! I did add a small safety wire as a backup. While I was disassembling the latches to work on them, crusty pieces of the old grommets fell out. Good to go now.
I bit the bullet and ordered an NOS cable release set (including headliner pull) on eBay. Will keep as spare. Gonna try safety wire or a small zip tie on current setup. I’m probably going to unbolt the passenger latch assembly to gain better surgical exposure. Should be able to rotate it...
I placed zip ties on both driver and passenger sides as shown in post #38 by Tomcat. Made the mistake of tightening them a bit too much. That put tension on the ball wire and decreased travel of the pawl that unlocks the mechanism. Clamshell got stuck shut until I had the Mrs. pull hard on...
Both my latch grommets are broken. Only the “donut” piece of plastic left on the wire on the opposite side of the fork from the wire ball (as in pics above). I will zip tie the wires. Thanks to the forum once again!

This Mk II, never tracked, as new, chassis #44, just sold for $605k ($550k plus 10% commission) at Barrett Jackson.
Ich bin gestern von Frankfurt nach Hause in die USA geflogen. Wir haben zwei Wochen im Schwarzwald und im Elsass verbracht.
Neuer Freund, Glückwunsch zum blauen Ford GT!
That was a fun rally! I won 8k in the casino playing blackjack. Went to the dinner/auction at the speedway and promptly spent it all on FGT memorabilia.
