:willy Links don't work.:willy

Spirit should work now.

VERY NICE!!!

Thanks for sharing.

KRYMUNY! The origional WAS a "go kart" beside today's GT, wasn't it!!!!!!

GREAT SHOTS!!!!!!!! 'Never seen these two cars side by side like this B4.

It is interesting to see them alongside each other. Is the Heritage a CAV? sorry not to know - I lose track of who's got what!

Assuming the Heritage is a faithful reproduction of the original '60's design, then it proves again how beautifully interpreted the Ford GT is. It is a wonderful evolution of the older design, it takes everything from it and yet loses little - adding actually.

Lordy how we love these cars! Great aren't they?

Timeless design and :thumbsup styling.

Neilda it is a CAV. The body is very accurate and sits 40.5" tall. Also my car has the wide "Gulf" flared rear wheel wells vs standard. The design is with out a doubt timeless. Just like the AC cobra. The FMC GT is 10 % larger all around as compared to the original. a few other diffs is the center fuel tank vs the under the doors side of body and duel fuel tanks and fillers. LHD vs RHD. radio, air cond., wheel size to name a few.

I hear nothing but good about the CAV. A properly engineered car.

I say this with a slight smile, but do you have any more photographs of the two together yet?! :biggrin sorry, I'm not being rude about the snaps above, it's just that as a subject, the CAV and Ford are aching to be compared photographically - with some higher res.... perhaps it's too soon for you to have had the chance and I'm too cheeky!! (I don't mean to be).

Have you had a chance to drive the CAV?

Fascinating to own both. A lovely idea....

It is amazing how small the original was in size. The New gt looks like it was put on growth hormones in comprison.

06fordgt,

Very nice! Some persons have all of the neat stuff... :thumbsup

Also, what is the car in the garage? I must assume that it has a big-block in it!

Jay in the background is a Superformance A/C cobra #1205 (4th in Canada). Running a 351 stroked to 427. Putting out north of 550hp and 560#trq. What you dont see in the far left corner on the lift is a Mini Cooper S rag top with JCW pkg and all black 18"wheels mounted on run flats. And in the other corner wearing blue trunks (of course) is a complete 1969 429 waiting to find a home in a vehicle.:banana

Mark I or Mark II

This is a dumb question to some of you, but I don't know fine details of the GT-40s. Have a couple of the books and done some reading but haven't completely figured it out. Anyway, is the GT an offshoot of the Mark I or the Mark II. My impression has been the Mark I, but I am not that sure what the real distinction is. The CAV pictured on the link is so much different than a Superformance I sat in (God, it is either small or I am fat) with all the scoops. I assume it was a Mark II copy, and the Heritage CAV is a Mark I?

Help - is the GT more Mark I or Mark II.

The FMC GT is closer to the mark 1 1966 body style, almost the mark 1b but with out the wider gulf style rear end-- the old one is wider and more wheel arch. there you go.
maybe some one can come up with the the wider rear end along with the bumper delete option.:willy

In a short nut shell.
The GT40 was designed by Lola in 59 (as I recall). Ford England bought the project after Enzo pissed off Henery. The car went through MAJOR changes by Ford, fitted with a small block and called a Ford GT MK1.
It was found that a big block would be much better for the long straight at Le Mans (Fords real target) so the MK1's chassis and body were modified to take a 427 Nascar motor and called the MKII, winning in 66'. This is probably the car you sat in.
It was toy with making the GT a street car to compete with the Vet, so a few MKIII's were produced. The nose and rear were both changed (DOT headlights and a trunk) but the car never went into production.
After 66' another GT40 was produced called the GT40 MKIV. This GT40 was a ground up design by Ford USA and except for the 427 Nascar motor shared nothing with the MKI, II or III's. It also looked VERY different and won in 67'.
When Ford quit in 67' the MKI was chosen by privateers instead of the MKII mainly because the 427 was outlawed, a ton of private R&D had already been done to the MKI and there were more MKIs available. Two of these cars became the famous GULF MKI cars winning both in 68' & 69'. This is the car (MKIs) ours was styled after.
On a side note, although Ford was officially out of endurancing racing in after 67' it is rumored that major back door factory support in the form of engineering and wind tunnel data was given to the privateers.
