Yeah, I caught that, I was just hypothesizing that Mullaly shared the experience, not that it needed to be shared for the Ford family to make the decision.

My bad - missed the point on my phone.

Good book on the whole ordeal.

American Icon is a great book! Some really good insights into some tough decisions, and great leadership by Mulally.

Interesting. Assuming that if you get an aftermarket tune to unleash the full potential that voids your warranty. If you don't void the warranty, the car gets a noticeable loss of power because of the ECU. That's gonna put some people in between a rock and a hard place.

After a lot of anticipation, I saw a C7 Z06 for the first time today and it didn't do much for me. The fender vents looked really tacky in person.

Factory fIx is supposedly in the works for ECU. Will be interesting where they end up balancing warranty and final state of tune.

One comment on that link makes some sense to me. Like Ford has on our FGT, COTS that richens the mixture at WOT to protect the cats. I know of a few cats that have failed on tracked FGTs, even one a stock one.

Whatever they decide to do, the car have to beat the new generation Viper (twisty track and straight line)

Well it doesn't look like it will beat the new TA Viper.

That is honestly surprising to me. I know it shouldn't be based on the magazine tests, but it's odd to see in real life.

It really seems like the Z06 nameplate gained 150 hp but didn't get any faster. That curb weight jump is apparently legit.

This has to be a tough pill to swallow if you are a Vette guy. All cars are detuned from the factory so I am not buying that theory as to why it is not living up to the hype. I think it has to do more with the power to weight ratio and aero at high speeds. The C6ZO6 is faster to 150 than the current model with much less power, that's embarrassing.

There's a huge controversy on some of the Vette forums regarding the legitimacy of that white Viper/black C7 ZO6 race.

Well, whomever filmed the vid says both cars are factory stock...but, are they? How would we know what 'tune' either car actually has? For that matter, how do we know the guy driving the 'Vette isn't 'sandbagging'?

'Not saying ANY OF THAT IS THE CASE. I'm simply saying the vid was found on the 'net...and we all know better than to assume anything we find on there is total gospel...even videos.

Regardless, the above vid isn't the only 'info source' that claims the new Viper 'bests' the new 'Vette in the 'go' department. Given that, my guess is it probably does.

Personally, I don't care!:biggrin

A 'counter' in the ECU isn't unheard of. Come to think of it, Ford has used 'em. :biggrin

Probably some truth to this, didn't the FGT have a break in period as well, but it was much less than 500 miles?

50 miles...if you're referring to the factory 'rev limiter' that was in play 'til then...

The car in the roll race had 700 miles, so much for the break in theory. Bottom line is that it comes down to power to weight, aero and gearing. The new Z was designed for the road course although I would think heat soak will be an issue. As an owner of multiple Corvettes, I can say that I will not be buying one of these.
