I need to put a private plate on the GT so new plates required - the car currently has an Aluminium number plate.

Has anyone had any problems with regular plastic plates - i.e melting or the backing film de-laminating??

Just assuming this is why the aluminium plate is fitted - but maybe not!!

Apparently they do warp.

Has to be aluminium - Revolve (used to be Roush) will make you up a set at a low cost including the small front plate with a neat fixing.

Plastic will warp and delaminate.

Plastic license plate surrounds furnished by many dealers in the USA had a tendency to melt if not removed right away. You need metal for the rear.

OK - I am going to get one from Roush/Revolve ..but......I am also going to try mounting a standard palstic one on a sheet of Aluminium cut to same size as an experiment!

Lee,

What have you got on yours??

I have the Roush/Revolve one.... Black/Silver as a matter of fact.... I fugured if I get stopped by the Police the number plate is the last of my worries...:wink

Ya might wanna 'sandwich' a sheet of heat shield material of some kind between the two while you're at it just for ha-ha's. 'Certainly couldn't HURT. :wink :cheers

Edit: The "old timers" 'round here will attest to the fact you can increase the air flow out of the engine compartment considerably by installing spacers between the rear 'plate and the car's body. I would imagine that should also at least help eliminate the warping pblm you're discussing as well. 'Just mention it incase you were'nt already aware of all that as it appears Viper's 'plate is flush mounted. :shrug

Yea....I was aware of the flush mounting issue but thought that since that huge silencer had gone it wasn't such a problem?

Am I wrong?

Lee - what plate you have on?

What exhaust is that???

Why block what amounts to a "freebee" exit for engine/exhaust heat? The 'secret air vent' :biggrin behind the 'plate is pretty big! Why not take advantage of it?

'Direct answer to your question: I don't remember if anyone has ever "measured"(?) the diff in heat levels before/after putting spacers behind the 'plate. It just stands to reason temps would have to be lower all else being equal regardless of the particular exhaust being used. :cheers

Exhaust is Heffner.

Plate is as they use on old classic cars. Ally. get them from any good plate company.

Empty Pocket......The reason is I didn't want to drill holes in the plate to bolt it on, It's stuck on. I will re-think

I did that first time around on mine - it eventually peeled.

Aluminum plate source

I bought aluminum plates from this company to use on a couple of my older cars while I have the original steel plates restored. They are good quality and I'm happy with the results. :thumbsup European plates available, too.
