Does anyone on the forum own a Superformance Daytona Coupe. I keep looking at the car and something just stirs me. Looking for some insight on the car, company, and total build experience.

thanks
Steve

I don't own one because I have seen some of the exact reproductions hand built of aluminum by Mike McCluskey, which are truly works of art and priced as such at $300,000 each. If you don't have a problem with fiberglass replicas, it is an excellent car with great reviews. It is supposed to be offered in aluminum later this year. The guy to speak with is Lance Stander who owns Hillbank Motors in Costa Mesa, CA 714.641.3100

Hi Steve,

I own an SPF MKIII. When I bought the MKIII I strongly considered the SPF Coupe. I emailed with Peter Brock a number of times and finally went for the MKIII just because I had always wanted a Cobra Roadster. I think Brock's SPF Coupe is outstanding. First, it is a high quality build by Hi-Tech in South Africa. Second, it is a second iteration of the original by the original designer himself, Pete Brock. As for the engine and transmission installation, that will depend upon who and what you choose. My recommendation would be Roush all the way with one of their 427R engines. When you are finished you will have about 120-130 in the car. I wouldn't trade my GT for it, but if I had the extra cash, it would be in my garage. Incidentally, I have nothing but positive comments about working with the SPF dealership in Ross, Ohio, Dynamic Motorsports. Good luck with your decision.

I echo Roger's and Kirby's remarks. Nothing wrong with the Superfromance car if you want a recreation roadster or Daytona. They are a first class company, even a partner today building CSX4000 cars for Shelby in Port Elizabeth S.A.

However, If someone has a CX2000 series chasis or wrecked car, Mike will build a Daytona on it and you will have CSX2000 Daytona coupe, there are several already. Obviously not a real Daytona Coupe but as close as it gets. Mike's work borders on art...

What do you want?

Well I know nothing about the Superperformance Daytona Coupe, but the only Daytona Coupe made in America was re-discovered by my friends dad in 2000. Its actually quite an interesting story and a trashed car! Nevertheless, it sold for about $4 million and had tons of legal battles over the rightful owner...the full story is here..http://www.norcal-saac.org/archive/csx2287.html

I'm really torn .... a great driver of what the original designer wanted to build versus what he had to build due to budget.

Or a as near as identical recreation.

can I have both ..please:lol

I guess I need to call and see what the "art" car would look like as I have never seen one.

I need a program ... I swear ... is there a 12 step for collectors?:rofl

Steve, I also own a SPF Cobra with a 427R Roush motor and the build quality, fit and finish etc. are excellent. I've driven the coupe and as nice as it is to look at I found it very uncomfortable. I'm 6'1" and 245 so this might have something to do with my discomfort. I have wide shoulders and I found the top of the door to be right up against them and the car is a very unfriendlt ride in comparison to the Cobra. If you are looking to race and you fit well in the car then have at it, but if you are looking for a cruiser be prepared for the noise, heat and tightness of the cockpit. Just my opinion, good luck. Dan
