No supercharger for 3 miles?!

I am due to take delivery of a new unused 05 on Sat. The service manager calls me and says he needs to drive the car 3 miles to make sure the supercharger is working. He asserts that it takes 3 miles of driving or 50 starts for the thing to start working.

I say from what little I know that this is nonsense. The supercharger is directly connected by a belt and there is no intelligence to the system. No wastegate, no clutch on the drive etc. I think he is either confused with another Ford product or he just wants to drive the car.

It is a little jerkwater dealership that got only one and sat on it for 2 years in the showroom.

Anybody else ever hear of this....or is this an innovative way to be stupid?

You ARE kidding ... right??????????????

Assuming you're not, either that service manager is an idiot, or he thinks YOU are.

(...I'll further assume you've now determined THAT dealership is not the place to have service work done on the car if needed?)

I would call the GM and tell him if the car has any more than the delivered miles you will not be taking the car! Period. There is a break in and you will be the one to drive it.

I would also wonder if they are going to quick charge the battery because they are known to go bad after a quick charge from the dealership so you might just go ahead and request a replacement battery before you take delivery.

Like Bony says, it is true that boost is limited until either 50 starts or between 3 and 5 miles (I don't remember which). Ford did this to keep lot monkeys from beating on your new GT.

That said, your GM does NOT need to drive the car to verify this. Tell them to NOT ROAD TEST it. Ford ran it on the dyno on the assembly line before they delivered it. Accept delivery miles only.

Trickle charge battery only. Very important.

Enjoy your new ride.

Three miles is nothing anyway, unless you are going to bubble wrap the car and store it for 30 years.

I know you are going to be driving it so 3 more miles will not make a difference.

My car came off the truck from Ford with just over 20 miles on it. From what I understand every 10 or 20 cars were driven by Ford to insure quality or some bull like that.

Just make sure they deliver the car clean.

I will be Tarpon fishing this weekend in Boca Grande, but give me a call some time next weekend and we will get together.:cheers

Part of the fun of owning a GT is when the "cap" comes off and you develop the GT GRIN!

Every owner should have the privilege themselve - not the car jockey at the dealer...

Tell him to piss off or buy it himself!

I really got a chuckle out of Bony's response to the problem.
