Some of you may have noticed that your wiring harness rubs the doors when they open. It is at the point where the door meet the fender just above the rocker. I noticed this back in 04 when I got the car and was worried that it would rub the paint off the end of the door. Today I found that the continuous wear has damaged the wiring inside the loom. My electronic locks and touch entry button driver side lost power. If I twisted the loom between the door and the post the power would come back intermittently. I opened the loom and systematically inspected each wire. I did not see a specific break in any wire insulation but had a failure in the ground wire(black and white). The wire must have broke inside the insulation due to the stress of loom binding under opening and closing. It also looks like the guy who attached the loom using a "zip tie" type fastener to the car installed it upside down. This makes the loom lower at a point where there is less room between the door and the post. Short term fix was to snip the ground and attach to a bolt in the door. This made the window and door locks work again. I will see if I can get a new zip tie fastener and install in the up location. I will see how much a new door harness is before I decide to replace. I may wait to see if another wire fails first.
