The Oct.9 hard copy of Autoweek has a one page write up. At the End of the write up Fred Goodnow engineering manager for the GT makes an interesting statement.
Goodnow said" If times were different maybe we'd have a shot at continuing production or to see a derivative of some sort. But the company needs to focus its energies elsewhere right now"
How would you feel if the GT was a continuing model year after year? Would you consider buying another rear engine car from Ford assuming it would have completely different looking body panels etc.. If Ford can get turned around who knows what could be on the horizon. It would be a shame to see all of this engineering go to waste ...

I would like to see the GT produced as long as there are buyers. I don't care about exclusivity. I want readily available parts and upgrades.

That's my train of though as well..

I like the exclusivity. Around here everyone has a Porsche and they all look basically the same, so it's BORING. The other big problem with most exotics is that pretty much each year the manufacturer makes the last year's model obsolete. That's OK when you're paying less than $100K, but when you are paying multiples of that it is very aggravating. No one like to throw $$$ out the window, do they? Not me. I accept a certain amount of depreciation but on exotics it's ridiculous. There's better things to do with money. The joke is most guys get an exotic and then don't even drive it to get that expensive cost back in some entertainment! :lol

Also, FYI Ford has guaranteed 10 year's worth of parts for the cars, so that should not be a concern.

My thoughts as well.

We dont want any more GT's, 4000 are enough, it is not often you can buy a BRAND NEW car and know in 20 years it will look as good then as it does now (unless you trash it).

My GT is here to stay and I love the lines, an original 60's form that still looks much better than anything else on the road, even the £1million cars struggle against its perfect lines.

What about the second part of the question are you happy enough with Ford to purchase another rear engine car? Assuming it looked toally different. Like one of thier earlier concepts or a Lambo , would you consider it? Or did you purchase the GT because of the history? Let's face it that's a great chassie it would be a shame for it to go to waste..

I'm sure most people purchased the new GT because of its history and popular undated classic lines, thats certainly the reason I purchased.

A new ford super car, I dont think so, priced at $150k plus, I would consider something else before I spent that money on a Ford. Over here everyone is shouting about the new BMW M5, my friend has purchased one and it is a fantastic car, and the technology is amazing.

Thats just one, there are a number of others in this price cat that Ford would be up against, Ford are not very highly rated here in the UK and the sales are poor, comments I've had "great car pitty its a FORD", I just shrug that off.

Pitty ford used a few standard components on the GT, such as the stearing wheel storks? If they built another supercar they would need to design standard Ford components out IMO.

sorry you are having such buyer remorse, must be pretty lonely to be on this forum...

You're comparing the Ford GT to a BMW M5? What are you smoking?

Hey Paul did you know my Ford Fiesta has the same parts that can be found in an Aston, Jag or a Volvo... WOW, what a great deal. I'm sad I don't have the same titanium pieces in my Fiesta as in my GT**

Oaks needs to learn that the OEM suppliers sell everyone.

**confession, I am a poser and don't own a Fiesta, .... yet, someday maybe :biggrin

Yeah I'm with you Bony and Centerpunch. Criticizing the car for it's A/C vents or stalks is like kicking Cindy Crawford out of bed because she has a mole. Who gives a s#*t? And MAN are the new crop of BMW's ugly or what? FUGLY.

I'll second that. Seriously FUGLY. I wonder sometimes if Bangle had a hand in the Aztec as well.

True the M5 is very nice - for a bus.

Hey, I have an M5. No more bad talk about it or else! :biggrin :banana
The M is a great car for what it is, but a completely different class of car.
It should not be mentioned in the same sentence as the GT. It's like comparing a lawnmower tractor and a back hoe. :lol

BTW, anyone that has not sat in the new M, try one with the comfort seats. Man, that is the most comfortable car seat! :biggrin

At least when you are sitting in it you can't see the ugly ass body panels... :biggrin

Guys (Bony especially), you totally missed my point.

I purchased the GT because I have a love affair with it, and nothing on this earth compares to it!

I would not change it for the world and I purchased it because its a celebration of the 1960's GT40, a one off supper car, a car that looks as good today as it did then (probably better), and the new GT is as good.

What I tried to say and you misunderstood, is if Ford were to produce a new supercar (not GT), they would be competing with other performance cars on the market, they would not have the GT40 edge, The history of the GT40 is a huge part of the sucess of this GT.

I would not buy another supercar from Ford, with the Ford badge, but I would but the GT again and again, its a fab car and never again to be repeated.

It has got a lot of plastic in the cockpit, the internal build quality is not the best, but its a super car in my eyes, I can live with this in the GT but I would not put up with it in another supercar from Ford, they would need to address these issues to compete with the rest

Well, the hood looks ok. :biggrin

So in short, you are saying that a Ford supercar without the heritage of the GT is just a Ford. I understand what you are saying.
I for one would by any brand car, as long as the looks and performace are there. If they made a 1000HP Yugo that runs a 8 sec QM, I would be in line. Well, maybe no yugo, but you know what I mean. :wink

I admire your devotion prmoldoaks but inevitably something else will eclipse the GT. It might take 10 years but that's progress. I personally think they've already built 1500 too may and yes exclusivity should exist with a product like this. I live in the Northeast where their does not seem to be as many GT's running around but the two times I've seen other GT's (thank God they were a different color) I sort of felt no longer special and a car like this should make you feel special. Don't get me wrong, that feeling lasted about 20 seconds and both guys and I had a ball comparing notes and cars but it's nice to be unique. My good friend also just got one and I'm thrilled to know that I have a buddy to cruise with. Just my useless opinion...Good luck!!!

Bigdan, I totally agree, but the GT has stood the test of time, no one will dissagree, the gt40 looks as good today as it did in the 60's and FORD have done an exceptional job on the new GT.

As I've said before, It is rare if not impossible to be able to purchase a BRAND NEW car form a modern dealership, knowing that this car (GT) could sit in the garage for another 20 years, and when you open the garage door it will still take your breath away.

All the other cars I own and have purchased throughout the years have all depreciated in value and the GT may well do the same, the other cars have also dated over time, the safe thing about the GT its timeless and I love it.

I think Cars like the Saleen C7, the Porsche GT all look fab, but the Ford GT is awash with history, and classic beauty, and this is going to be something we will always appreciate everytime we open our garage doors.

Sorry to harp on, but we are lucky (in away) here in the Uk as we only probably have about 30 Gt's, so you just dont see anotherone in the same place, and thats a great feeling too, as my fellow UK owners will probablly confirm.

The GT40 is huge here in motor racing terms, and we Brits love our history and classics. :cheers
