Gearbox noise?

I have a 2005 Ford GT. I notice that when I am accelerating under full throttle, I hear a noise that I think is coming from the gearbox between about 5,000 and 6,000 rpm. It sounds like a clattering, like gravel rolling around on a metal tray. And, when I let off the gas and depress the clutch to change up a gear, the noise gets a bit louder. Then, it goes away when I get into the next gear and the rpm drops. Has anyone encountered this problem? My car is still under the original warranty so I can take it to the dealer but I am curious if anyone has any experience with something like this.

Thanks for any suggestions you might have.

Similiar kinds of noises have been traced to shifting cables and the like vibrating against this or that. (A "search" of 'Forum threads should reveal info on this.) But, I don't recall any noises occurring EXACTLY as you've described.

I would suspicion tough that you'll find a similiar situation to be the cause your pblm as well.:cheers

This is more than likely not your problem, but have you checked your rear belly pan to see if it actually has gravel in it? I cant count how many cars we have had come in with more than a hand full of small rocks lying in the rear belly pan. Needs to be cleaned out ever so often if the roads you are driving on has bits of loose gravel and such.

It was pointed out to me yesterday that the oil dipstick and some of the door hinges rattle.

The quickest fix is either get a louder exhaust, or turn up the stereo. :driving:

I think we get overly cautious and hear every little thing....except the honey-bunny when she wants something.

Gravel in the belly pan has been an issue out here in 'no mans' land. I have a air nozzle with a rubber coated 2 ft extension and blow the sand & gravel out after every drive. :old:

Do a search for neutral gear rollover and rattlesnake noise.
