Alex, do you know what if any effect lowering the car will have on top speed?

As far a lowering the car with just a lowering kit (stock springs and shocks).

When at Nardo doing the Ford V-max testing I used shock pots and a data system to define the body attitude & ride height at max speed.
And just like a good race car. Any time you can increase the rake angle
(Front lower than the rear).
You will be adding front and rear down force as well as stability @ speed.

The Nardo drivers always preferred the added rake over the stock production ride height. Because the car felt slightly more stable and planted in cross wind situations.
Rake will always make the underbody ground effects work more effectively.
And has only a tiny increase in drag.

We should note that the flat or stock ride height still builds enough down force to overcome any system lift.
And this down force will still drive the car down to the point of engaging the bump stops @ v-max speeds.

And yes you do reach bump stop engagement sooner with the lowered & raked car.
Because the down force is higher. Not because you start out statically lower, as the spring rate is nearly the same (or slightly higher) with lowered stock springs and shocks.

Remember the wheel rate go up slightly with a lowered GT.
Because you gain wheel rate from the inner bushings preloading slightly more on a lowered car (a good thing).

Wish I could share the Nardo test data with you, but its Ford property.

It was cool to look at the data plots. Pull up a data window of 8 laps around the Nardo v-max loop.
Speeds falling down to 209 MPH into the wind.
And climbing to just short 212 MPH with the slight tail wind
Throttle position @ 100%, for a quick fuel tank Drain.

Refill the tank and do it 5 more times ASAP.

The speed traces were the best. The speed over time line was completely straight from
0 – 195 mph. Then the rate of acceleration slightly bends over as the car climbed to max speed. My heart races just thinking about it.

And to think some of you have the power to go bigger is too cool.

Great post, MR2Race. It's amazing to have the opportunity to hear your own impressions of test driving these great cars when they were under development.

Brian The design will work the 1” shorter Eibach lowering springs

Brian

The design will work the 1” shorter Eibach lowering springs for the FGT.
Is that what you mean by custom springs? Allowing you to adjust ride height
and set corner weights.

The T&A lowering kit will not work with the common 2.5” I.D. Race Springs.
It is set up for stock 70mm I.D. Springs.
As the stock shock body is too big to accommodate a smaller diameter spring.

Brian, What do you have in mind ?

Some kind of wild project?

Shock setup?

Alex,

As I will be using your Penske shock absorbers to lower my car, I'm having a little trouble figuring out the setup. How do I adjust them so that I will be younger, smarter, and better looking?

Chip,

I don't think you will be able to improve on perfection.:frown

Well, mabe if you were to get a Heritage, then you would be beyond perfection.:lol :lol :lol
