I've got an open Featherlite and want to install a tire strap system. I've read previous threads about using e-tracks and either tire baskets or straps through the wheel spokes. I lean toward the baskets. However, most of this discussion was for closed trailers with wood decks. My specific question is whether e-tracks are the best way to go with the aluminum deck or can additional recessed D rings be installed as tie down locations for the baskets/straps. Thanks in advance.

Clearly the Factory specs baskets as the way to go.

E-track gives you a lot more flexibility to move your car for balance. If you try to install d rings exactly in front and behind the tires, you can't move the car when you discover it's too tongue heavy.

The d rings probably won't be in the right location to help you tie down other cars you might want to transport in the future but e-track will.

It doesn't matter whether your deck is aluminum or wood. E-track works fine with either.

I would go with a recessed swivel "D" ring. Featherlight makes or uses a very nice set-up. I have them on my 20' Featherlight. I would be wary of E-track that would be exposed to the elements. Over time it will rust. It's great on the interior. You can't help but chip the paint or powder coating when you move the securing ties. These folks have good stuff...http://www.mrproducts.com/
