A man has been fined £3,000 and ordered to carry out 250 hours community service after fixing an online auction on eBay.

"Critics of eBay say shill bidding is a widespread problem on the site."

The bidding on a certain "million dollar" FGT is probably the Oscar winner in that dept.

The article certainly mirrors many of the opinions expressed around here.

Don't many car auctions throw out fake bids to try to raise prices?
(with full disclosure in buyer & seller agreements)

Shill bidding is just a common practice in auction style formats of anykind (not just ebay). I dont agree with it, but its just the facts. Thats why we personally use the BUY IT NOW or BEST OFFER format. No bidding, no guessing games. We put our price out there for everyone to see. If someone wants it, they will buy it or make an offer. No stupid bidding, etc, as in my opinion ebay does not really work as a "TRUE AUCTION" for cars. Its nothing more than an advertising venue to get your product out there in front of the general public.
