Best tyres to fit to a 19"/20" wheel combo to preserve gearing?

Guys,

If you were fitting 19" front and 20" rear wheels to the GT (9" wide front and 12" wide rear) - what would be the best/optimal brand and tire size to preserve gearing/sizes/rolling radius to as close as stock as possible?

(And I guess if you had to -you'd want to go smaller overall diameter rather than larger - to reduce the effective gearing - making car rev out faster?)

I'd want a proper "sports" tire - not a truck or SUV type!

Maker, there is a sticky on wheels and tires.

With 20s, the closest I can think of is 315/35/20. Tires that come in that size are Nitto NT05 and Pirelli Pzero Rosso.
Many people go with a 335/30/20 and the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2.
If you want to go even shorter, you can do a 345/25/20 Nitto Invo. I am probably forgetting something.

Personally, I would go with the NT-05s or the PS2s.

fjpikul,

Yes I know - but its of no use to me as it concentrates on replacements for standard sizes.

Thanks Kumar.

We cant get Nitto over here.

Looking like the Carrera GT spec Michelins are the easiest to come by - though I thought they were really crap on my Carrera GT!!

Pirelli also make a 345/25/20 - might see if they will work??

Has anyone done 20" on the front?? ......any results from that or is it simply too much?

...likewise anyone gone bigger on the back?....or you then into the realms where only SUV/Truck style tires are available and not proper "sports" tires?

....any ideas on the biggest widths of rim to run without getting into rubbing issues??

Thanks!!!

you could go 21 in the back and use the 375/20/21 Pzeros

SW has 20s all around on his car: http://www.hrewheels.com/hre_in_action/hre_lifestyle/car-of-the-month-april-2009/
