The "little museum in Boulder" got a great gift. A very significant GT350 - the supercharged prototype, SFM6S051, was donated to the museum.

I found out about it today because a friend mentioned to me about something else at the museum, but this is a much more significant event.

The details are on their home page now,

http://www.shelbyamericancollection.org/

I'll post a copy of the page but it doesn't always render fully - sometimes only the text and not the photos. I'm sure the rest of it will get into the "collection" pages at their main page soon (after the next thing happens)

It turns out that the donor also owns (owned?) the Honey West Cobra. She is a great gal for making sure this car stays in the public view. I'm sure it will be swapped between this museum and the Larry Miller museum at his track in Salt Lake.

Also, I'm lucky that I live about 15 minutes from this place. I'm going out of town this week and won't be able to go down there to get pictures, but if I'm lucky (likely) I'll be able to get the hood up and the ropes down.

Here is a copy of the Shelby American Collection page. The pictures will probably not show up. Visit the SAC page before they disappear.

1966 Shelby GT350 Supercharged prototype donated to the Shelby American Collection

The Shelby American Collection Museum is extremely proud to announce the donation of one of the most historically significant Shelby American built Mustang GT350’s to the museum in Boulder, Colorado. This Shelby is the only 1966 GT350-S produced and is serial number SFM6S051. Along with being the first and prototype supercharged GT350 it is also the first and only 65 bodied car to be painted other than Wimbledon White along with being the only one with the GT350-S side logo designation. This historic car and associated memorabilia was a gift from the estate of the late Joyce and Steve Yates of Nashville, Indiana.

According to museum volunteer Jim Cowles, Joyce Yates had attended the annual Museum Christmas party and fundraiser previously and relayed that her late husband Steve would be proud and amazed at the museum collection. Mrs. Yates was sad that her husband was not there to enjoy it with her and could not think of a better place to permanently display their pride and joy.

Starting in March the car will be on display along with the Yates collection of Shelby American Collectibles. Museum volunteers Jesse and Anna Bourdeau, Cory Miller, and Darren Longhofer made the trek to Nashville to pack up the car and memorabilia and transport it back to Colorado. According to Steve Volk, museum principal, the collection is excited to display a great piece of Shelby American history.

The Shelby American Collection is a not for profit 501C corporation located at 5020 Chaparral Ct Boulder, CO and is open to the public Saturdays and also available for special events. For more information www.shelbyamericancollection.org

P.S. Do you know how lucky we are? This lady could have brought this car to Barrett Jackson or one of the other auctions, and it would have disappeared into someone's warehouse never to be seen again. I can go down on any Saturday and drool on it (well, at the ropes, until everyone else leaves and then they let me take pictures :) )

Always liked the green Shelby Mustangs. Would love to hear that Paxton whine too.
