Thought I would direct thread on this topic as its in comments of polls / random posts.

My take on past / present / future...IMHO:

'04-'06

-Lots of hype, John Shirley #1 GT to public for $500K at charity auction
-Auctions/Purchase of early GTs to top collectors; Leno, etc
-Dealer ADM/gouges of $50-100K+
-Lots of flippers (websites, DuPont, ebay)
-Crashers (bought, crashed)
-Bad press: saleen backlog, control arm, speedi-sleeve, Clarkson, etc
-Aug '04-Dec '04: 550 cars sold, most at premiums, $+100K max,
-Jan-July '05: single-double digit sales months
-Aug '05-Jun '06: peak triple digit sales months
-mid 2006 Sales at MSRP
-late 2006 sales at MSRP with extras (free ship, oil changes, discounts, etc)
-Late '06 Half Shaft issues
-Late 2006 below MSRP sales
-Jan/Feb 2007 some '06 sales still
-2007 many used GTs <$150K
-2008 bottom of GT used market $135K; salvage $75K

Takeaways from '04-'06

-Supply of potential buyers was limited (even with top stock, M&A, real estate, PE/VC markets)
-Ford brand and $100K was issue (and wrong) v. exotic brands
-Early buyers who got gouged still have not broken even
-Lots of used GTs 18 mos out; fickle buyers
-By mid 2006, anyone who wanted a GT could get/find one, including specific colors, options, wheels
-$139K, $149K, $185K MSRP; prices changed/specific option
-Ford under-priced competition; delivered "value-for-money" v. F360, 911 Turbo, Gallarado

2016 GT

-Supply of potential buyers is limited (EU, BRIC in recession; OPEC crash/shale bust; tech bust [coming]; 10mil. unemployed)
-ADM/Gouge will be there; first 10-15% of production (550/4038); then fizzle.
-Ford brand and $250K+ will be issue (again) and wrong.
-Ford will underprice competition (eg, <$250K); provide value-for-money: Core Ford value.
-$300-400K produces lots of issues: from sales tax, to insurance, dealer floor-planning, CF lift/rack issues, to high-maintenance buyers
-"Everyone who wants '16 GT will be able to get one": gouge, new, used, flipper, end MSRP, superficial/cosmetic salvage, MSO in '26.
-The early hype will be crazy; core GT buyers will there and endure in sustaining sales and long term resale value.
