I may have to reluctantly agree. My 750il has dropped like a rock in a vacuum on Jupiter compared to a Toyota! I think a large part of decline is due to the expiration of warranty and maintenance coverage.

Not as an investment, but you'll always get back it's original value, plus a little more. Won't keep up with inflation....

Appreciate depreciation.

Black GT,

I think you would get a lot of enjoyment out of driving one. But as the Super Snake will be produced in whatever numbers customers choose to order, and as faster, more powerful versions are on the horizon, they will not hold their value like the Ford GT. Ford GT numbers are decreasing weekly as they are shipped out of the country and demolished in accidents stateside. There is no newer, hotter, faster Ford GT on the horizon. Shelby Automobiles in Las Vegas is an ongoing concern that needs to continue producing automobiles to stay in business.

I own two Shelby Mustangs and although they have both depreciated rapidly, I enjoy them both. If I had my depreciating GT500 turned into a depreciating Super Snake I would probably enjoy it even more! Every time I turn the key and fire one up, I appreciate!

I can't agree more Chip, but, although not a SS, I think my GT500 is actually appreciating. :biggrin

Alright Ice, I give up. What is an SP500? How do you figure in a KR?

Frank I guess you spend more time in the lab than at your stock broker or Wall Street SP500 = Standard and Poors 500 and index of 500 large cap publicly traded companies.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S&P_500

Nothing to do with cars, other than that price of the sp500 is highly correlated with the demand and pricing of luxury and exotic autos.

From another article:

In a recent study published by Kelly Blue book called the "Kelley Blue Book of Residual Values," experts measured the actual value that various cars held over time. In this study, the used BMW 5-Series won a top spot for retained value. Leading with 1st place for its ability to retain value was the BMW Mini Cooper. Kelley Blue Book also forecasted that used BMW models across the board will retain their value best over the next 5 years.

Almost all of the top slots in the overall survey were awarded to luxury vehicles. No matter which type of use luxury car you choose, it's much more likely to retain its value than a non-luxury vehicle. If you're looking for a used luxury car with top grades, the used BMW 330 series, 5-Series, and Mini Cooper are winning choices.

Frank, for what it is worth, I too did not get the SP500 reference....

Now if he had used S&P500, I think that would have been a bit more decipherable.

A few cars out there with the moniker "500" in the name description.

I'm a former SEC Registered Representative (Portfolio Investment Specialist) and I'd never seen it called simply SP500, so I missed the reference completely also.

in 20yrs plus???

2010 Shelby now produce 540HP, Would Ford do something like this on purpose? The KR puts out 540HP, wow it must be a coincidence that the new Shelby would put out the same. You would figure Fords new Shelby would put out 525HP. This is so the people who sent their cars to Shelby for 28K-32K KR upgrade would always be happy.

I currently have a 07 Shelby coupe and a 07 convt with only 6 miles. Getting a reasonable offer on one of these cars is almost impossible!
I am sticking with the sure bet and its the real deal Ford GT!!

The answer in my book is NO, you are better off getting a stock Shelby and adding all the performance options you desire but good luck in your own decision.

Moderators note.

This forum exists for the enjoyment of Ford GT/Ford Motor Company/Shelby automobile enthusiasts. Both the Ford Motor Company and Shelby automobiles must make a profit in order to survive. So does my business. It does not promote goodwill among our members to refer to any business striving to make a profit as a "money grab". Carroll Shelby has spent a lifetime building an amazing automotive legacy and he is a living legend. He is not perfect and either am I. He is trying to make a lot of money which is exactly what I, and every other business in the United States is trying to do. In the 1960s Carroll Shelby built as many cars as he could sell at that time. Today, a limited number of those 1960s survivors are worth a lot of money. Many purchasers of modern Shelby Mustangs hold the mistaken notion that Shelby automobiles should produce a limited number of new Shelby Mustangs and then voluntarily bankrupt their company and go out of business so that the supply of modern Shelby Mustangs would be limited as well. This might enhance their resale value, but it's unrealistic. Shelby automobiles exists to make a profit and to do that they must continue to produce better/faster/more desirable automobiles. That's not a money grab, that's free enterprise. God Bless America.

This car was selling for $100K only 3 years ago. The only thing that should get gold plated is its rapid loss - 50-60% loss... Sorry Randy...

BTW, I would not put too much stock in Kelly Blue Book either. Last I heard they were being sued.
