What to call the new GT

I would think this car is more of a pre-production car than a concept... concept usually means for show. They said this is a +/- 95% production ready car if I remember correctly... plus they have already said it WILL be built and sold next year.

I believe Ford said the exterior/body was 95% production ready.

The FGT was very similar in exterior readiness when Ford said "go" and yet the roof had to go up 2" and the windows wouldn't roll down. We had to engineer everything under the skin and modify the exterior as little as possible.

95% production ready overall would mean final confirmation prototypes are running around and development is nearly done. If Ford said Phoenix is a "go" publicly then yes, you could say "'16FGT pre production" in the same way Petunia became the FGT right after the auto show back then.

I think I can get on board with this.

I agree with Dave, the "GTE" name works.

GT6 seems like it would make the most sense to me. GT + V6= GT6

Here's the reality. They named it PHOENIX. Phoenix has been called sun bird, fire bird, ect, through the ages. For this reason alone I should be the first to get this Masterpiece. After all we are both HOTT! :biggrin

Respectfully,

Vince Hott!!!!

........... I wish, I wish, I wish, I wish!

This would be great. We can share the name with

2015 VW Golf 7 GTE (204hp)

I am as well owner of a 101 2005 GT, why can't we call it "GT-V6" or V6-GT as it has only a six-cylinderengine ?

I've figured out what they should call the new GT, given that they've all been "NAMED" "GT", but the original was dubbed the "GT40" and ours dubbed the "GT", the new one should be dubbed "GT-E" or "GTE". Both for the 'eco-boost' engine, as well as the racing class at LeMans it'll most likely contest. Yes?

So, GT-E/GTE. If we start using it now, it'll catch on, I'm sure of it. :biggrin

...buuuuuut... when you ask for such-and-such part at the parts counter you may be handed one with "Lincoln" stamped on it...

Like when they want $12 for a part because it is from a Mustang?

In the last couple of days, the words I have heard are more accurate in description - "production intent". I think that conveys the essence of where it's at.

why worry about rename. Call it the Ford GT .
When the new Mustang came out they did not call it the "Musthorse" .
We tried that once in 1974 and called it the Mustang II. That name did not last very long either. :):)

Since this one really is a streetable race car, what about Ford GT/LM (for Le Mans) or Ford GT50 (for 50th anniversary of Le Mans win).

Hmmm.

Civilians would call it "the new Ford GT," enthusiasts would call it GT50.

"Dave's picking up his new GT50 next week."

I like the sound of that.

Your PHX will be the Ford GT II King Cobra. I ordered a special decal for the hood as a gift.
