What About This Paint Protection?

Sounds like a good Idea!, or is it BS? I always wondered myself what happens to wax after baking in the sun. I would imagen it gets washed off in the next wash. I use only 100% pure carnuba wax on my car... it usualy will last 2-3 months before another application. What do you think ?

Personally speaking -

I would never apply something on my vehicle that is marketed as "Lasting five years" or only apply "Once per year" because sometimes I just want whatever it is, off.

Different waxes do different things in the sun, but nowadays most waxes have a UV sunguard that resists fade in even the hottest of climates. 100% pure carnauba wax is just a marketing slogan (Sorry to break it to you) If it were 100% PURE Carnauba it would be harder than concrete. Most waxes say 100%, but they aren't because you have to be able to use them. So who knows what is in them? Carnauba waxes are generally known for having a white dusty residue that can be visible on black trim, where as (generally speaking) most synthetic formulas such as Zaino leave no residue and offer mostly superior results to the old tried & true Carnauba.

I use Zaino and have for quite some time, it lasts long, provides clear depth, and can be removed for re-application if I want it off. I've seen it last 8 months, and it lasted throughout the snow season on my plow truck last winter. That was another one of my tests...it is very durable. It is what I use on my customer's vehicles and I have not heard any complaints or problems, but have only heard praise on the long term benefits. I've heard many times that they can re-wash the car and it looks like I just finished waxing it again.

Just my .02 :cheers Carry on

Jason, thanks for the info... given your reputation here I really appreciate it. I understand that the carnauba wax isn't pure they do add chemicals obviously, but I have noticed the yellower it is the better it works. I use mothers, however Zaino has had my attention. I live in NJ and I drive my Mustang Gt every day, my biggest fear is winter with the salt :( I love the car to death and go to great lengths to protect it. I usual wash it once a week in the winter. I detail my own cars, and take a lot of pride and enjoyment out of it. Im going to give zaino a shot.

I was using Meguiars for atleast six years and Mothers for the last few before I switched to Zaino. Have not looked back. I always enjoy chatting with people that detail their own rides so feel free to hold on to my cell phone (847-343-4180) if you have any questions.

Rob,

She looks fantastic. I know a NJ detailer that may be interested, I'll PM you his information.

Don't be afraid to get water in the engine bay as most modern cars are meant for their engines to get a little wet. Don't hold the hose at the alternator for ten minutes, nor any wiring harnesses, just practice common sense. Your particular engine, the SOHC 4.6L uses a Coil-On-Plug design rather than spark plug wires and one thing worth avoiding is holding water on top of the intake manifold/fuel rail area for too long as the coils may not be tightened down completely or the rubber flange may not have a good seal thus allowing water into the spark plug passage. It should evaporate over time but it is just something to avoid in my book. It is best to inspect the engine before washing it.

Also, only wash it when it is cool. Some say because the aluminum block will crack, and some say it doesn't matter, I personally feel that if you can - wait for it to cool - and on the plus side it is easier to clean an engine that isn't 180*F degrees. I'm not too keen on testing the block cracking theory, either.

A diluted 10:1 Simple Green solution will work for you if it is very dirty, just remember to treat the rubber and plastic when you are done. You can get yourself a few different brushes at the hardware store. Even if your engine looks like this, there is hope :lol

Jason,
I took the challenge this afternoon. I used some simply green industrial degreaser (purple color) and applied it with my foam gun. This stuff works great! I did 2 applications one for the heavy dirt and a second for the little stuff. Used a little blower to dry out the wires etc then let it air dry for an hour. I didn't apply any armor all to the rubber&plastic, but shes clean thats all that matters. Tx again and ill def give Tony a shout come spring. :cheers ~ Rob

Ron,

I've tested the Pinnacle Souveran Paste Wax and found it to be a very nice product. The depth and clarity was absolutely gorgeous and it was very straight forward in the application. The downside that I noticed was it lacked a real hard finish that would allow it to last longer. Durability was it's only weakness, and it lasted me - if I recall correctly - a little over three months before I noticed the wax was loosing the deep gloss and water beading properties. To some, three months is great, but if I were to be able to get at least five out of it (For my customer's value) I would be using it today. The gloss was very comparable to that of Zaino and Klasse, very rich and and the paint really pops in the sunlight.

The Souveran Paste Wax is a great choice for the do-it-yourselfer, but due to it's application instructions - the old small swirls - it can be a time consuming wax in my book. But some people just like to touch their car longer and there you go :thumbsup It is the only product that I tested of Pinnacle's, as I usually just test the flagship product and go right to the good stuff. As I said, the gloss was as deep as can be - As expected with a Carnauba, but I have just not been able to get them to last as long as some synthetics on the market.

Hope I helped...Pinnacle is a great choice indeed.

Jason, what is your opinon of Zaino vs. Klasse?

Zaino all the way.

Klasse produces a deep shine just like Zaino, but come with even less durability. We're talking weeks...Maybe three? I'm talking about the KAIO (Klasse All In One) Alright maybe in good weather we're talking a month tops. That has been my experience with their AIO which is advertised as a sealant, so it should last much longer, but it doesn't. Their high gloss sealant gives you more life (3+ months) and contains synthetic fillers that will fill and hide scratches for only a short while, before they're washed away or just wear off. Steer clear of the AIO and go right for the real deal, their High Gloss Sealant if you want a Klasse shine. Zaino has a filler type product, Z-5, which I incorporate into my work because it works so well in conjunction with Z-2 Pro. With Z-5 and Z-2 Pro used together, now we're talking a gorgeous shine.
