Whats up so far
thanks to all who have posted with interest and concern. Also, thanks again to the GTGuys (Rich and Dennis) for calling with your insight and first hand knowledge of the car.
The Bolts....those damn bolts. Yep that's the problem. The two bolts on the half shafts. For what ever reason, they seem to go. When they do your just out of luck. The car won't move not an inch.
Ford's answer is to install some more Ford bolts, only this time don't torque them so much. That seems to have been the problem. And that is what the dealership is saying I should do. New bolts and washers, this time don't torque them so much.
Interesting though is....the dealer says, this is not the first one they have worked on, okay, but last time the bolt broke all they did is find a new nut. Yep, the bolt broke with enough thread on it...and all they did is put on another washer and nut onto the broken bolt. Not exactly the fix I would be hoping for if it were me.
There is another, better in my opinion, answer. Again in speaking to others with knowledge, and a little over my head. But here goes...First do both sides not just the one that broke, there are two. If the bolts or washers or torqueing is off why wait for the other side to go. Second, use an upgrade in he washer or nut and bolt's don't use the Ford spec's. Third use a wire to secure once installed to make sure nothing moves.
I'll see if I can get some pics to post. I will try to get over and take a look. It seems as though the fluid spill left quite a mess. I will also let you know how much Ford is willing to pick up and how much they will not. I of course will be correcting the problem as I choose, probably not in line with Ford's solution. I am also not going to wait for it to happen to the other side. I'll fix both now.
As you all know my GT is an '05 vin#1380, current millage is about 7,800. I heard this could be an issue in all '05's and some early production '06 models. Just an FYI
Thanks
