Kile-
Nicely done!
And thanks for giving our owners an appreciation of the complexity and sophistication Ford/Riccardo designed into our transaxle. It is a very comlex piece of machinery and has been shown to be robust enough to take input powers significantly higher than originally designed.

One question-
Other than developing the 3.90 ratio for your orange race car, did your work/knowledge of the original transaxle design lead you to propose any other design improvements/modifications to any of the internal secondary gears or bearings?
Thanks!

We have taken the opportunity to go through the gearboxes and see what, if any, improvements could be made. During this process we have seen a few transaxles that had some broken components inside like bearings, but for the most part everything else is holding up very well.

We did discuss the second gear "crunch" with the engineers and they said that it is not something that they are concerned will cause a failure. They agree that at first it was an alarming feeling but after much testing and inspection they did not feel it was anything to be concerned about.

With that being said, we have gone through 25 transaxles now on cars with stock power levels to more than 1,000 horsepower and we've worked on transaxles that are brand new and some that have tens of thousands of miles on them (this distinction goes to forum member PL510 Jeff) and none of the trans looked like there was anything wrong or going wrong with the gear, synchros, or bearings. Overall...This is a great transmission!

Thanks again Kile for the pictures and the internal report!

Nice to hear from the experts.

Your overall assessment of a great transmission goes nicely with our ownership assessment of a GREAT car!

You better grab it quick,

It was my understanding that Stillin had a special area set up just for doing these and now that all 25 have been converted they intend to use that area for something else ? :frown

What are you waiting for, someone else to get the last one so you don't have to make a decision?

You know something even I don't know! LOL!

Although, I do have a feeling that there is a set (already installed) in a car that has gone to the new owner and that the new owner might want the O.E. gearset. As Lorenzo said, we are discussing the next steps for the part of the shop that was being utilized for these services...Let me know if you're going to need us Soroush!

You might be surprised.

Why don't you start a "group buy" type of thread, then when and if you get enough folks signed up, collect 50% deposits from each, order the gears from Ricardo, and have 25 more happy customers!

This can be effective. I was part of a group that "commissioned" Quaiffe to build limited slip differentials for our Z8s after the original small production run had run out. If memory serves, there may have been 20 of us. It took a little while to get it together but it was worth it.

I would jump in. (suppose I should have an idea of cost before I spout off) :biggrin

Well, I guess we'll use this thread as our discussion thread:

Who would be interested in a second production run of the 3.90 gears? I can't promise that it will happen for sure but if there is enough interest I will do my best to push it through!

Let's use the standard pricing for this just as a starting point. $6,643.00 for the set of gears. If the car is delivered to us then installation is $2,600.00. If just the transaxle is delivered to us then installation is $1,600.00.

Please chime in if you would be interested and I will start a list:

1) Soroush?
2) 2112?
3) ?
4) ?
5) ?
6) ?
7) ?
8) ?
9) ?
