Did you see the write up on the SLs in Automobile This month?

Always liked them. I thought production ran thru 1972' Since the replacements arrived as 73's.

Nice cars are going up in value too.

One of my college professors in physics and later a personal friend had a 60's 190SL. I wanted it badly but we never connected. He did the European delivery, and brought it back. It was a light color - beige or silver, I don't remember - and he chromed all the engine parts. It was gorgeous. He never drove it if there was even a remote chance of rain (all 2-1/2 blocks from his place to the shop, and always parked it inside in the shop - which we also had keys for to do our own work).

190...that is the Gull Wing body style, correct? When did they cease production on those?

Mine has been with me since 1991

Bought it from NYC owner in Central Park for $4500; then spent 15 yrs using it and working on it.

Did a restoration in 2006-07

It's bank vault solid.

190 SL shares only grill with 300 SL Gullwing; 300 SL is a super car capable of 150mph and will stay north of $1million forever. In early 90s gullwings went for $150k & many barn finds for $50k

190 SL was 1957-1963.....sold tons; rich mans karmann ghia

Gullwing were only 1400 cars; about ~100-150 are still unaccounted for and are likely in former dictator colonies....Iraq had like 25; Iran probably 50...I have pics from 60s with 12 lined up in front of Tehran Hilton

Kayvan, What year is yours? Did you say it is a 280?

Is yours the Greenish Brown color? Ted Nugent had one that color along with a matching 76" Bronco on an album cover way back when. Love that color on both rigs, in fact That is the color of choice IMO.

I did the Wikipedia search and see what you mean on 190 vs. 300. Not really that close at all.

I found it interesting that the 190 production overlapped the 230 but the 280 did not even meet up with the 450 production but stopped a year early.

No it was not gullwing but shaped similar to the 300SL. They came wit a removable hard top or soft top.

Yeah, I did not think it shared the Gullwing doors, but the body shapes are similar enough that a non-expert could confuse the two.

Mine is Dark Olive Green / Cognac Leather / Tan Canvas

Its a rare color combo; close to British Racing Green

Mine is a 250 SL...produced 1yr and rarest of production, lighter than 280 and 4 wheel discs
