anyone have any experience with anything other than V1? kinda irritated with them and would like to try something else, unless they are hands down way better than all the competition.

thanks for your responses

Have you tried reprograming the V1? http://www.valentine1.com/Lab/techreport3.asp

I turned off the false alert generators and I'm pleased with the results.

Escorts for 30 years?? I would imagine that gets pretty expensive.

I have the remote installed Escort 9500 in a couple of my cars, and have had the V1 as well. I still love the "arrows" on the V1, but the Escort with the built in Laser Jammers is the bomb!!! Works fantastically!!!

Have you seen Frank? The escorts get hazard pay.

That is totally false. But, they do get reduced rates on pathology.

I will have to try that. I have 3 V1's and over the past couple years, the false alarms have become unbearable.

There are some great past threads about radar detectors that can answer all your questions Redeemed. Just do a search on this forum.

PS Im a V1 fan. I send my unit back almost every year for the updates. The new K Band filters work well.

Send your V1 back for a software update.
The pricing is competitive and the result is good.
Best,
Mark

I have an Escort that's really good, very few false alarms. My McLaren has a built in K40 that totally sucks - masses of false alarms, tell me anytime an Audi r Cadillac is near, and offers totally random voice commentary ("X band muted etc")

I have found it is better just to buy a new one and then sell the original.

Escort all the way . The new one has arrows also. Plus you can store your own false alarms and also hook up a app for live police hits on other escorts in your erea.

For a decade or more, I was one of the biggest fanboys for the V1 and own 4-5 of them. I too grew tired of the increasing number of false signals and an update improved but didn't cure the situation. IMO the GPS-based technology in the Passport Max - which I purchased a year ago or more, makes them far superior to the V1's. When you get a false signal you can reach up and tell the unit not to alert at that location again. Or, automatically, if you pass by the same false 3 times, the unit will block that signal. However, if you ever pass by that location and DON'T get the signal, the unit will automatically un-block it. What this means is that when you drive around on your normal paths, the Max is getting quieter and quieter until the point you pretty much don't have any falses. Oh, but are you worried that a legitimate radar gun can get you if he/she parks near one of your stored block-outs? Nope. The unit would then see two signals rather than 1 and it will light up.

All in all.... the V1 was the absolute king for a decade or more, but there's a new sheriff in town.

I have the passport max and it is as Kendall describes but he didn't mention it also tells you which direction the threat is coming from just like the V1. A plus is it can integrate with a user community data base app on your phone that is updated in real time to alert you of any speed traps or instant on units if you like being involved. Very nice unit.

A follow up question here: I just picked up another car (2014 Porsche Turbo S) that has a built in K 40. Anyone have any experience with them? I am usually a V1 user and very happy with them, but the K 40 is built in... Thanks in advance!

Hate to say it, but the K40's aren't up to snuff. I just picked up my wife's new DD yesterday, and today the Escort 9500CI remote, detector/laser jammers were installed, I now have it in 3 of my 4 cars. I am a big fan. I do have an old V1 remote in my NSX (15 years old tech), and it still works, with Blinder jammers, but the radar tech is way out of date, and I'm thinking of upgrading that too!!
