I began going to sports car races in the mid-60's with my neighbor, who was the advertising account manager for Amalie Racing Oil. They sponsored mustang in the Trans Am series, with Freddie Van Buren as the driver. I got to see a lot of great cars and driver's back then, including a visit with
Dan Gurney when he was driving for Team Cougar with Parnelli Jones.
Our local road course was Green Valley Raceway, about halfway between Dallas and Ft. Worth. It was a dragstrip as well, and raced my mom's '67 Thunderbird there, as well as my '66 Buick Skylark Gran Sport.
In the late 60's they built Dallas International Motor Speedway. It hosted the 3 day Texas Music Festival, a few months after Woodstock. Many of those same bands played the Texas show.
Spent a lot of time at both tracks, and reliving those memories is a blast.
What tracks were around you guys back in the day ?
