Both it and the PFD are pretty cool. It almost feels like cheating to fly instrument

Back in the early 80's I was part of a team that worked on a DoD program designing an experimental touch screen Glass Cockpit. There is some serious engineering that goes in behind these displays.

I've never seen a belly pod on a Cessna 206 before. On the Caravan they don't seem to slow it down too much. How much weight will it hold and how many knots do you sacrifice? Is it brand new?? Very nice looking plane and cockpit!!

Is that a Cardinal? Good looking plane. I have the same question as Chip.

The belly pod will hold 300 lbs and is supposed to only cost you 3 knots. The plane is a 2007 and has 400 hours on it. Between the glass cockpit and the turbo it is a very nice flying airplane,

So I've always wondered, whats the cost to own your own airplane? I know it varies alot, but for a single engine Cessna like this what do hangar fees, insurance, plus maintenance end up costing? I plan on renting to try it out before I take the plunge. I hear it takes around 100+ hours to make it worth owning. And BTW, nice plane!

You better really want it.

A bundle. I'll give you an idea and I speak from experience as the owner of two planes up until a year ago when I sold one to reduce expenses. I had a Cirrus SR-22 G2 built new for me in 2005. Cost to purchase was about $550,000.00 including sales tax (that most states collect even though you bought and took delivery out of state before they let you register the plane) plus.......

Assuming you pay cash for your plane and have no payments and fly 100 hours a year and nothing breaks (fat chance)

Monthly hanger rent-------------------------------$500.00
Monthly insurance---------------------------------$450.00
Monthly radio card & moving map updates----------$100.00
Annual Inspection (approx-$6000.00) per mo.-------$500.00
Monthly fuel--------------------------------------$840.00
(Fuel cost for 100 hours a year, 18 gal per hour (1800 gal. X $5.60 per gal.)-----$10,080.00)

Total monthly expense---------------------------$2,390.00 (not counting the cost of the plane and/or money opportunity cost)

And everything that breaks costs a fortune. My primary flight display burned up TWICE at $14,000.00 EACH.

If it flies, floats, or f****, it's cheaper to rent.

GT 1547,
Tell me about the ZR-1 after owning it for more than a year, and, is the GT-R as fun a the ZR-1, or more ?
I ask because I'm trying to decide which one to get.
Thanks,
Rock

Airplanes can be a lot cheaper. I currently have 13 of them. Some of them are very expensive but there are a few of them were I just laugh at the low costs. You can buy a 100 mph Taylorcraft for under $20,000, and expect to sell it for the same amount if you keep it up properly.

Annuals can be as little as 300.00, and the only burn about 4 gph of auto fuel. Keep it a private grass strip and the hanger is very reasonable. Almost no instruments to keep up and parts are very cheap. Insurance should be less then 1,200 for full coverage and less then 400 for liability only. They are a lot of fun to fly and they do not require a medical any more.

I often tell people that my Warbirds cost over $3,000.00 per hour but really nothing as they have appreciated many times over the total spent so far. Usually the more modern the plane the more expensive to operate.

Beautiful Cessna by the way.
