Loading backwards

I just got a Tungsten. I've ordered a 20' Haulmark Thrifty Hauler. What brand and size is your trailer? I noticed you backed it in, did it pulll better? I used towels around my tie downs but have since gotten Sheepskin " across the chest seatbelt covers" about 24" long and have velcro so their easy to wrap around the bands. Enjoy.

Thanks guys :biggrin !

The car has 1.8 miles on it ( i was unaware that the speedo/odo read in miles on the Canadian cars) so I'll probably drive it a few more until winter hits. On the way home the snow was starting to fly already :thumbsdow .... but we'll see.

As far as my trailer, it's a Haulmark Thrifty 28'. Way too much space left over at the back, but it'll do. The reason it was backed up was so the back door could be used to get out of the car. It was a tight squeeze but it was done. I'm still thinking a side door on the other side is a better idea and will probably invest in one. I also didn't have time to do the bevel trick on a 2x6 that Trent suggested. I had access to some 2x6's but they didn't do the trick. We found a way to use them in a different way however which got the car up.

Basically the car will scrape it's spoiler no matter which way you drive up, but i'm sold on the idea that Trent suggested, so i'll probably try it out soon.

haulmark

I ordered my Haulmark with the "escape door" a must, and only a $250 option. I must give a plug for East Coast Trailers, after an ehaustive search they had the best quote hands down. Also, I found that laying down the 2x16 by 12' raised the car enough to clear the opening (on my previous trailer). For the record, the bottom of the GT door is 12" above the ground.

Great pics - nothing better than seeing them in the wrapper so to speak.
Congrats on a beeeeeeeutiful ride :thumbsup

The 2x6 works great and clears the front spoiler by about 1/4 inch when loading forwards, but I haven't tried it back asswards.

As soon as the weather clears GET SOME MILES ON THAT PUPPY - like I needed to tell you that.

Glad to hear you got her home - enjoy. :banana

Loading low clearance cars on trailers is not rocket science but sometimes requires a little creativity. You can avoid bottom-scraping with virtually any trailer if you park the tow vehicle and trailer on down sloping pavement where there's a change from street elevation, so that the drive on ramp is closer to being level with the pavement before the slope. It's usually easy to find a workable location within a sort distance of most dealers, except a few in the desert.

Thanks guys! Unfortunately the car is still in the trailer due to the weather, but hopefully it'll come out soon.

Trent, I'm going to do it up on the weekend (the 2x6), thanks again for the help the last couple of weeks!
