LIVONIA, Mich. — Roush and Ford Racing Technologies on Thursday announced they have come up with a new Ford Racing GT500 Supercharger that increases performance from 500 to 605 horsepower. The extra horses will set you back $5,600.
The most reassuring news is that the supercharger is covered by a one-year/12,000-mile drivetrain warranty.
"We thought we could get a little more out of that engine," said Jack Roush, in what has to be one of the understatements of the year. "In tandem, we were able to pull another 105 hp without compromising the warranty and I have no doubt that this new Ford Racing Supercharger will be in very high demand by owners of the Shelby GT500."
With the addition of the new supercharger, the 5.4-liter V8 cranks out 605 horses with 554 pound-feet of torque.
Roush explains that the supercharger gets a new TVS "roots-style technology" and features a considerable improvement in airflow and efficiency. "The bottom line is the more airflow, the more power," the Ford tuner said in a statement. "Noteworthy is that this is the first application that will be incorporating this new technology, both on the OE and aftermarket side."
