I once hung around Makati, Manila and Rizal Park. Had a blast. Is the Tourista still anchored in the bay and is the Bayview Plaza still standing? I think the clap was invented there.

Thanks. Im not quite surte if the Tourista is still anchored...to be honest iv never heard of it. hehe. The Bayview Plaza is still standing last I checked. How long ago were you here? you should visit again soon....im sure a lot has changed since your last visit.

Last time I was there was 1967...landed at Clark AFB...from there went by car to Subic Bay. I remember a narrow 2 lane road the whole way ('far cry from any high speed "elevated platform!). At one point along the way, the two lanes forked around either side of a large, white Catholic church which sat in the actual center of the road! 'Very odd.
'Also remember passing thru several small villages(?) made up of simple shacks on stilts (with a lot of garbage strewn around under 'em). I would image all that's pbly long gone by now?

I was in and out of the PI from 70-78. Tourista was the only casino and Marcos declared marshall law. Access to the Tourista was by armed esscort boat only and if you got caught out past 11PM you damn well better have a US passport on you.

Whoa...that was a while back. :eek Hmm..im sure not much has changed with regards to the scenery....more modern buildings and establishments. It is still regarded as a province thus deveopment is slow.
Im not quite sure what road that was. A lot has changed indeed since then. In fact theres a new highway that links Subic directly to Clark...SCTEX (Subic-Clark Expressway). Regarded as the longest stretch with the best roads in the Philippines. Drawback is there are high speed cameras and radars. Here's a link of a buddy that took a video of it during a drive:

Thats interesting....didnt even know that. Well, there are casinos around the metro and provinces nowadays. Nothing like Vegas but it'll do. Hehe....jeepnies are still all over the place in different sizes and colors. :biggrin Mainly used as public transportation.

Trust me! There were NO stretches of the OLD road that were carved thru ANY hills "back in the day"! Were I to go back there, I bet I wouldn't recognize a darn thing anywhere. I still "see" the Phlippines as it was back then...bicycles, Jeepnies, and the like. ('Seemed weird looking at all those Porches on the NEW Subic-Clark roadway! :lol :cheers)

haha...well theres only one way to find out.
anytime you are up for a visit let me know. we'll go for a spin around town and in the new roads. haha...you'll see a handful of porsches as well as exotics...especially on sunday mornings. ill post some pics and vids up soon.FordGT4fun

wow....baguio. been a while since i've been there. nice, clean and cool climate there. if it wasnt so far from manila i'd love to drive there every weekend. hehe. let me know when you plan on visiting. :cheers

I was there in 1979 stationed aboard the aircraft carrier Enterprise and it looked just as Larry described! I remember riding a bus from Subic to Clark and seeing other cars and busses that had crashed some time ago and sill lying at the bottoms of ravines.

I was also just catching up on this post today.
Great videos. I was last in Subic Bay in 1985 as I finished up my last West Pac cruise on the USS Carl Vinson. I loved Baguio. When I last went there, the best way was to go by Jeepney. Beautiful country.
