Makes Hans Stuck look slow

Compared to Hans at Nurburgring, here is a clip with a completely different definition of speed and risk--from Spain....enjoy

DAMN!
Notice how when he's upshifting 2-3-4-5 he doesn't even bother bringing his right hand back to the wheel. He wouldn't have time to, anyway.

What is this, "dueling videos"? :lol

Hopefully you are not really trying to say this video compares with Hans at the Ring. Because Hans was driving an M5, presumably with some level of modification, but in no way can that be compared to this sports racer in your video. I don't know what class of racer that is, but it looks comparable to a Radical, or something similar. That looks like a heavy downforce car, that would stick to the road at top speed even if it was upside down! And it has a different type of suspension, with comparatively little travel, stiff springs, etc. The way you approach a corner in such a racer as that is quite different than the way you would in a street car, even a modified one. For starters, you don't need to "settle" the car as much before turn in, and you don't have to spend so much time trail braking to make sure the front end sticks. Since the suspension has comparatively little travel, and is so stiff, there isn't anywhere near as much weight transfer due to the suspension loading and unloading. In that regard, its much like a shifter kart. And we all know a shifter kart can beat an Enzo on the right track. So its like comparing "apples to oranges"! To say this driver makes hans look slow, you would have either see this driver in the same M5 at the Ring, or see Hans in this sports racer on the same track.

But anyway, since you weren't seriously equating this vid to Hans', I'd have to say that it looks a damm hell of a lot faster, and sure shows the driver has some balls. Thanks for posting it!

The rocks on the edge of that track look so welcoming and absorbent! Not sure I'd like to drive quickly on that section - eek!

There is no intent to dis Hans--the guy is incredible--and I love the video. An Audi R8 GTP car is in a different league than an M3 R. Likewise, while the Nurburgring has a fair bit of danger as a track (from Marimon to Lauda), it is in a different league of risk than a mountain road. Think of the video as the edge of speed and risk--I have seen nothing like it.

Ps Is the Hans Stuck in the video related to the Hans Stuck who raced for the Auto Union team---falling victim to Nuvolari's incredible drive in 1935??

I thought that might be an Audi R8... wow
That driver has talent and courage.

You can tell he knows the course by his anticipation but he did blow by a few cars rather quickly, counting on their evasive maneuvers. That takes courage too as they appeared to be inexperienced likely.

At the risk of looking like a Hans Stuck fanatic, which I am not particularly, here is a little bit about the guy from his website-
<snip>
Heritage
Hans-Joachim's father Hans Stuck
Hans-Joachim Stuck's father, Hans Stuck (1900-1978), was a very successful racing driver and hill-climb specialist. During his 40-year career, he scored 411 wins and runner-up finishes, including seven Grands Prix victories. He set numerous land, water and hill-climb speed records and built the famous AFM race car along with engineer Alex von Falkenhausen. In recognition of his many victories in hill-climb races he was called the "King of the Hills". He raced until he was 62 years old, and won his final German hill-climb championship at age 60 (in a BMW 700). Hans' father was also an accomplished alpine ski instructor and expert golfer.

Here, Hans remembers his father...

"My dad was a good friend to me. He gave me the talent to become a racing driver and he helped me a lot. He was not only a successful racer, he was a good and fair sportsman. He gave me a lot of the things that helped me in my career."

Ferdinand and Johannes Stuck
"I remember all the events, and even up to today, there was never any person that told me a bad story about my dad. This is something I admire very much because in this long career he had, not to have made any enemies is pretty difficult."

"It was exciting for him to see me enter racing, and how much had changed in those 40 years. Now I'm getting older, I can feel how he felt. In my first race, I didn't even have a firesuit on. I went out in normal shoes and shirt, no seat belts, no gloves. It makes me wonder what we're going to talk about 20 years from now, where motorsport goes next, what level it will reach."

<unsnip>

So to answer drive4fun's question, yes, it appears he is the son of the Hans Stuck who raced alongside Nuvlolari.

The only thing I really know about Hans J. Stuck, (Jr), is that when he was driving for BMW in the Speed Vision World Challenge GT series, I think it was 2003, he was being held up by Mike McCann in a Viper Competition Coupe, as they raced at Lagnua Seca in California. Now Mike is a great driver, but not in the same class as Stuck, having far less experience. So Stuck was "stuck" behind McCann, who was busy trying to make his Viper "as wide as possible", driving a defensive line, trying not to let Stuck pass. Stuck wasn't having any of it, and began literally ramming his BMW into the back end of McCann's Viper, repeatedly banging into McCann's bumper, in a blatant effort to get McCann out of the way. The in car video tape showed the hard hits from behind. It was unbelievable to me, to see such blatant aggression. Looked like they were playing soccer! So there is always this element in motorsport, where on the one hand we set rules of engagement, but on the other hand, a real winner will bend those rules as neccessary to win. Drivers not having this killer instinct are 2nd, 3rd place, etc. Anyone else see it the way it appears to me?

Vic, Thanks for the info on Hans.
I spent a couple of days driving Laguna Seca earlier this year, but without some one banging the back of my car.... more recently, I saw Max Papis and the "GM team" gang up to take Henzler and his Porsche 911 Cup out in turn 2 during the final laps of a race at Laguna. This kind of racing isn't pretty but I agree it is part of the sport.

That was very "unsportsmanlike", what they did to Henzler. Did you see Lou G. swing wide, pushing Henzler outside, to let the Caddy through? Partisan politics at its finest.

Maybe they should start a new race series, "Speed's Full Contact Demolition Derby GT".

yeah--and the interesting thing is Henzler must have known they were bound to do something, but he had no coverage to help him....
