I was checking out 100 octane fuel for Vegas.
This place was near by. Only 3.5 miles from THE Hotel. Price is $5.99.
I called the station, and they said they had 7,000 gallons in stock.

Usually out west 100 octane is unleaded. I've been lucky enough to find a station right around the corner from my house. But it is $8.00 / gal. :eek

Octane

Neilda-
I am not sure how the octane postings are in the UK. Because there are two commonly used metrics to report the fuel's octane rating, here in the US the typical posting is (motor + research)/2. Thus an attempt to use both methods and average both.

The minimum octane requirement per the above calculation for a stock FGT engine is 91. Some areas of the US offer 93 octane in their premium offering, others 91. And of course add a tune to the car which invariably changes the spark advance curve and your octane requirements go up higher per the tuner recommendation.

An excellent price. About the same as regular here in Hawaii.

I believe European octane ratings are higher than U.S. Something about you guys using a a straight research octane number and we use the above formula of motor and research octane divided by two.

95 over there is the equivalent of 91 or 92 here if I'm not mistaken.

I'm sure there are more knowledgeable guys on here who can answer.

Regardless, your UK owners manual should give you the correct European rating.

What would be the advantage of running 100 octane in a car tuned for 91 or 93? You would need a special 100 octane tune to take advantage of it wouldn't you?

+1

If your tune is optimized and safe for 91 then 100 will not help in any way, but if your tune is on the edge, then 100 can buy you a better safety margin. Other cars with knock sensors (FGT no knock sensors) may benefit from higher octane. I think most of the TT guys are looking for the 100 so they can select a higher boost level to leave us non-TT guys behind.
