Hello everyone,

I'm recently on the market for a Ford GT, I've never owned one previously.

I have alot of questions about buying an FGT, which I'll search for elsewhere on the forum as I shop. Most of them have probably been talked over, but I'll offer them here if anyone would like to comment.

-are there differences (part changes, 1st year isses, price) between '05 and '06? are there any early cars that are likely to be problematic?
-is the FGT appreciating now, or just holding its value?
-does expected price vary by color, or for the Heritage edition?
-are FGTs sensitive to miles the way, say, Ferrari's are or do they hold their value if driven? They all seem to be low-miles cars.

thanks all

Welcome

The search function will quickly become your friend and the information available is huge

As for selecting a gal I would encorage you to chat with Shelby at Elite Auto Sales or Bernie at BJ Motors; both are active forum sponsors and have tended to many successful transactions

Checklist, everyone here will agree that RED cars are the fastest. There are lots of old posts concerning these issues. Minimal differences between '05 and '06 cars. Some '05 have very nice billet A arms. First 400-500 cars had recalls for them and some have speedy sleeve crankcase fixes. Cars seem to be holding their value. No real "high" mileage cars have really come up for sale. Most of us love our cars and won't part with them. Heritage was a more expensive option and thus costs more. Shelby and Bernie are the ones to check with for you want. E-bay has some, but ads are decreasing in occurence.

Of course, driving in the Red car looks faster to those that sit in them (perception to the driver can be misleading), but the real deal is Black. It's clean, simple, and always appropriate wherever you go.

The FGT has held its value regardless of mileage. As with any collectors item, the longer you hold, the more it's worth. Consider the economy and you realize the FGT value can only go up.

fjpikul is correct about the early '05's. After problems were fixed, the rest of them came down without a hitch. The lines of the FGT are important. When you open the back engine compartment, you don't want any rubbing.

Signatures and modifications are quite prevalent with the members on the forum. If anything is done by The GT Guys (modifications and such) you are in good hands. I have no comment on the 2 guys re-selling GT's (Shelby and Bernie).

Good luck.

Both comments are open to debate. Midnight Blue, though very rare particularly when stripe free, is unquestionably the fastest. However, most casual observers don't realize this. The blue flash going by them is often mistaken for horizontal lightning.:thumbsup

Only 2 things to add from me since I only got my GT on Friday and it hasn't stopped raining since.

Firstly....just do it, even if you don't drive it, it's an awesome car to look at and I can't stop.

Second.......Shelby is your man,......bought mine from him and it's exactly as described, like brand new. Just fitted the bumper delete together with the Heffner exhaust and just polished it to death.......boy am I happy.:banana

To answer your questions...
- the differences between 05 and 06 are minimal. There is a specific thread on the forum that deals with them. Some were not year specific but more like early cars vs later cars (intake grill etc).
For very early cars there was a recall to susbstitute the A arms.
Also some cars (randomly really) suffered from an half shaft bolt problem. Again this topic has been covered ad nauseam on the forum. The fix from Ford or Accufab has proven effective.

- color affects price because of the number of cars made. There are very few Quicksilver and Yellow ones. Then Blacks and Whites. Reds are the most common. The Heritage edition commanded a $15k premium (I think) on the MRSP. I am sure Shelby will be able to tell you if this is still the case with used cars. Stripes (or the lack of) are also a factor regarding price. If you want a stripe delete car they are more rare.

- As per mileage... these are still exotic cars... so I am not surprised they all have low mileage on. Still they are bullet-proof and I have heard of a few examples with 45-50k miles. As per any car a lower mileage one will command a higher price vs a higher mileage one everything else being equal.

- If I was you I would choose the color first and then 1k miles difference between cars should not be a big deal, especially if you plan on driving the car.

- Some cars have been modified (exhaust, pulley, short-shifter etc) but they can all be returned to stock very easily.

Good luck with your search. As said above Shelby of Elite and BJ Motors are 2 excellent sources for the FGT.

You ever notice how its always the guys that don't have RED that always refuse to accept the fact that RED is indeed the fastest color!. Funny, how that works. Go figure.

As to RED being the most "common" color I don't think the word "common" is an appropriate adjective appropriate for any FGT regardless of color. However, they made more in RED FGT's, it true but only because they they were the best looking and the fastest. There what more proof do you need.

What now!!!!

:biggrin:lol :tongue

'evenin everybody.

Thanks for all the replies, thats awesome. I appreciate the clarification on the '05 -vs- '06 and first year blues. I'm a little torn on color, I'll do alot of web surfing to try to decide, but it might take seeing a couple in person.

Tomorrow I'll find a few minutes to give the forum dealers a call. Forums + dealers are a good combination. Provides dealers a way to find customers for what they have, and gives people buying cars a voice they never had before.

thanks everybody

checklist 34, Matteo comments are right on par with the market. Year, Color, Options, Wheels, Condition and history is another example of what to look for when purchasing. Always consider a PPI (Pre Purchase Inspection) with a forum member or one of the two dealers on the boards, yes that would include me as one.
I welcome the phone call and hopefully we can find you a car that is what you are in the market for if I don't have it I am sure Shelby might. It's unusal when you find dealers supporting other dealers, but there is enough business and location also plays a factor.

Hey everybody,

I just wanted to say hello on election day, and thank everyone for their hospitality towards a new guy on the forum and help (with PMs, posts in this thread, all the posts that came before I started shopping for an FGT, and the enthusiasm). Pretty welcoming forum. I read it most every night.

Winter will be here pretty soon in my part of the country, and as such I can be patient and wait for the chance to see many of the color options in person before buying, but I am really looking forward to getting the car. :)

To all of the other entrepreneurs and business owners on the forum, godspeed. Regardless of the headlines and attitude towards business, its you guys that fuel the future of this country. For me, I sold all of my interest in all of my businesses this year ending just a few weeks ago (negotiations and discussions, of course, go back a while). So the election isn't my problem... unless you want to consider that its likely outcome played a big role in my decision to sell. The timing is good with the markets down, and I hold alot of hope for better days. Hopefully I get to start another biz before we become a socialist nation.

take care,

CL34
