I know this car, it was assembled in 1966...
strange place to find it for sale, but it is the real deal and a lower price than I would expect it to be listed..so far

at Barret, didn't a race heritage GT350 from 66 sell for $420,000 plus buyers premium at Barret earlier this year?

Hello Issak,
The difference this is a true "R" model, not a GT350 that was converted into an "R" model.
Cheers,
daniel

I see Daniel,

that makes more sense then. I'm def. not the expert here, just trying to figure out the difference, besides obvious price gap ;)

I saw it in their showroom while visiting for the Woodward Cruise. Sweet ride.

I think that this is the same car.

It has a long history. All race cars have a "history". :biggrin

All these pictures were taken by me at Watkins Glen (June 2007).

Geez, 7/8 of a million bucks and it's a "deal?" Oh, well, I guess everything is relative. Reminds me of when I was a kid, a fellow in Naperville, IL was selling a '66 GT40, advertised in Road & Track for the then princely sum of $100,000.
Apparently, it had quite the racing provenance. I showed the ad to my father, who grumbled, "he's either nuts or the ad is a misprint-one too many zeroes in the price."

But, as crazy as a near-million dollar GT350 sounds, I guess it's a steal compared to $11 Mil for James Coburn's Ferrari...

That is about $5M over the last sale of a 1962-1964 250 GTO?

Although the 250 GT's are cheap (compared to a GT0) :biggrin , I like them also.

I saw a real 350R sell for $900,000 (not a mis-print) two years ago at Amelia Island Concours Auction. Waay overpriced for my likes - but the boys had fun driving the price up. Buyers premium took the sale price to $990,000!

1965 Shelby GT350 R (SFM5R102) did sell for $990,000 at RM Amelia Island (3/06).

It was a special car. It was one of the first 15 of 36 GT350 R's built (those had no heater, defroster, insulation, upholstery, etc.). Bob Johnson drove this car to the SCCA BP National Championship. It was raced as car #33.

Unlike many of these cars, this one was stored away in 1971. As far as anyone knows it still carries all of its original parts (including the engine, suspension, chassis, bodywork, and even the wheels). Most Ford collectors agree that this car is the best example of any the GT350 R's.

'65 G.T.350Rs Are extremely rare and most are known in the car community. '65s had the rear side windows blocked out. My 66 G.T.350 hopefully will benefit from these outrageous prices! Hope they keep going up!
