A real hot topic in the EU. How to save a dysfunctional state whose citizens and corporations avoid paying taxes. Even land Registration offices are defunct. So ist not 100% clear who owns what. And no own motivation to change that. That's the real tragedy.

Only the second developed country in history to default on an IMF loan, after Argentina years ago. A welfare state at it's best.

Interesting ... today the greek prime minister admitted "Previous governments created clientelistic state, furthered corruption & strengthened ties to economic elite." and they are going after that.

Not sure what that means but its the first step to identify your weaknesses so you can make a plan how to address them. Nobody wants to sink money into an bottomless pit. I hope for the greek people that this government is really going after it.

Still wonder how crazy the situation has become in the last months. German DAX lost 17%, Euro lost 4% while greek economy is only 2% of whole euro zone.

But what is Greece's current debt to the EEC? I would venture it is much higher than 2% -

I agree. But has the rising US debt any effect on the value of the US$ ? And what I find more interesting is little value is lost on the € but more value at the stock market.

Hopefully, the ECU won't give them any money until after they see real Greek change and not just promises they will change like the Greeks did last time to the ECU. Maybe if the Euro is devalued the dollar will go up in value.
