Hmmmmmmmmm. I'm 63 and I think I was in combat. I seem to remember firing a 'few rounds' at somebody or another sometime in the late 1960's while wearing some kind of uniform. ('Coarse, come to think of it, that just may NOT count as
"combat" 'cause 'Nam was a "peace action" and not an actual war - as we all know.)

uhhhh.... I'm 41 and there was Grenada, Panama, the African incursion, Gulf War I, Somalia and oh yeah .... GWOT.... I also forgot the War on Drugs (DEA, USM versus Cali Cartels). None of them very long ...but a firefight feels like an eternity when you have incoming coming at you.

Scale is not important when your bagging your best friend. war still sucks but it has a pull to it. I guess thats why man is so good at it. Its easier to fight than to try and talk things out for some people. Cr@p I sound like a liberal. which I definitely am not. Perhaps a realist ... if you want to fight you want the best leader and from the field that I see I would have a hard time following any of them into the bathroom.

GW is a honorable man that I do not always agree with but he is our CNC. I guess when Hillary gets elected I'm moving to some other country ..... I guess we need to start looking at that option.

Has anyone ever wondered what the US would be like today if Ross Perot actually had of tried to get into the office? HRP as president. hmmm kind of like fantasy football ... fantasy government.:ack Talk about a free market economy and that great sucking sound coming from Mexico.

While I was crossing the coloring lines, unless you're about 80, you were not in combat.

Totally follow your reasoning friend, only me too, though Navy. And I promise at that time in my short life I was past crayons, or not.

One had to do something floating out there with 3000 other dudes.

Yes.

Pete, I love you and thanks for your service to Country. My final question is, would you want the kids that our serving over there to see this thread? Yeah, I am very sensitive...
Have a great day and
GOD BLESS AMERICA,
daniel

I prefer seeing differing opinions at most times. Of course, there is a time and a place for humor, and none should be desensitized to the brutality of war. I think the average Joe (sorry if I offended by using Joe) can take most within the context it was meant. Recall how the thread began. Quite passive when compared to some user avatars and other speech reflecting views of equally elected officials put in place as representative of our great country.

To stifle opposition is to create isolationism, even at this small level, and lose creativity. Whether I like this war, the last, the one I was in, or any war has no bearing on my love for the man/woman serving his/her country. It's unconditional, as a group. Do I really care how this forum leans politically or chooses to express themselves; sure, I do care, I do read, and consider what goes into my responses. Rarely confrontational, but there I prefer learning and hearing what I haven't before: I don't need the crutch of like minded reinforcement 24/7.

Was I of that age in the same surroundings I was at the time, I'd probably have enlisted like I did back then, today. It had nothing to do with the President of the time, nothing to do with politics at all. For me, it was the thing to do. The kids, and slightly older soldiers serving today, yesterday and tomorrow can by all means have my and this forums opinions on everything: especially one of the best cars ever dreamed of. Some like this, some that, but I feel we can all agree on supporting those doing the fighting at our behest.

.....Have a great day and . .. . Thanks, I have so far. A couple hour get together with 3 other local FGT'rs, Stan, Jim, and Jenifer at what is called "The Church of The Holy Donut" in Burtonsville, MD.

While I was in Europe before I went to the nurburgring I went to the US soldiers cemetery. in Luxembourg namely to visit Patton's grave site. The place was typical military .. all aligned and marble clad. Very sobering and very beautiful. In contrast I went a mile down the road to the German national cemetery. In comparison it was dark, chiseled from native stone. The thing that struck me is two soldiers shared a single heavy cross. None of them had a rank or swastika ... just last name.. initials and date of death.

The difference between the two places was shocking and sobering. The US has 5000 dead in it and the German has 12000. Defending ones country is costly ... the ones we should be honoring are the ones that have passed. They are the ones who paid the bill so to speak for our freedom.... our rights to say what we think.

If you see a vet on the street offer to buy him a beer. If he toasts to lost comrades ... allow him to talk about them, shed a tear and be thankful that they answered the call.

Please remember all the surviving dependents charity's this holiday season. Buy a gift for a child who will never again get one from their dad/mom.

Enough said. I am off my soapbox.

'Most meaningful - and genuine - post I've seen here on The 'Forum in quite a while.

Very well said, Steve. :thumbsup :cheers

May I ride your coat tails and add one thing? No man/woman in uniform (that goes for their family members too, if present) should EVER pay for their meal in any restaurant in which any of us is seated.

Ditto to that Larry :usa

Also, I will gladly buy a socialist lib a one way ticket to the country my dad escaped from, the ussr. If you libs want it so bad, go live there. Don't force it on me. I know what that crap is all about. There is a price for freedom and some of us are still willing to pay it.

The socialist road that they, and the entire Democratic Party, is attempting to take United States down today has led to the economic ruin of both Europe and Canada. When I was a young boy and gross national output per citizen in Canada was comparable to that of the United States. Canada chose early on the socialist model of today's Democratic Party. Today, the gross national output per citizen in Canada is about 1/3 that of the GNP per capita in United States.

I agree 100% with you Chip about the dangers of socialism. And the ultra-liberal path that Canada has gone down in recent years is deplorable (and please note it is the politicians who are embarking on this, against the will of the majority). But you can't really make an economic argument out of this, as Canada is very productive and is far from being in ruin. The fact is the US dollar has fallen 50% against the $CDN in just the past few years. As for the GNP argument, I'm not sure if that is the best way to measure a country's relative merit - after all France is considered to have the world's highest standard of living, partly because they work so little!

Other facts you might want to consider are (1) Canada has a repository of oil that is probably a bit larger than even Saudi Arabia, and luckily is in a good strategic location for US (and Cdn.) consumers; (2) Canada has probably the best human rights legislation of any country in the world (yes even stronger than the US Constitution). In 1948 a Canadian diplomat wrote, and the United Nations passed, The Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This Declaration was signed onto by a bunch of countries in the wake of WW2; Canada signed it, however the US did not. Canada followed up in 1960 with the Canadian Bill of Rights which recognized its citizens basic human rights including rights to property, freedom, and a fair trial. That is one major reason why the Patriot Act could never be passed in Canada (except as a very temporary measure) because no act of law in Canada can harm any human being.

It may interest people to know that because of this Bill of Rights Canadians who know their human rights FULLY can earn money in their private capacity for themselves and this private property is not subject to income tax. If anyone wants to know more about this they can email me. If as a true patriot and US citizen you want to learn more about the similarities & differences between the US and Canada, email me. If you are a true patriot and not afraid of the truth email me as we have to stand up to the politicans before they ruin these two countries. The truth will always set you free.

Great idea. While you are there you might try to obtain a copy of "Tragedy and Hope" by Prof. Carroll Quigley and "The Creature From Jekyll Island" by E. Griffin (it's about the creation of the Federal Reserve). Both are recommended reading for patriots

WOW!! Whats all the stink about??? This may be the most contentious thread I've read on this forum. And all over a joke.:eek

I'm from Texas and voted for our home town boy at least 12 times (we Texans get to vote as many times as we want as long as the candidate is from here. :cheers). I generally agree with GW on most of his policies and would probably vote for him again (if we could get past this silly term restriction thing) and I thought the joke was damn funny.

So loosen up. I'd bet 'ole George would laugh his ass off if he read it.

Besides that, if he has two coloring books that puts him one ahead of me.:rofl
