Ford GT 220 mph video - Philippines

A friend's Ford GT goes 220mph at an undisclosed location in the Philippines. It's a shame the speedometer isn't as clear as we hoped, but FYI the last digit on the Ford GT's speedometer (on the lower right portion) reads 220mph.

Enjoy!

i find this vid very hard to believe. :skep he shifted into 5th gear at 195 mph according to the speedo. :shrug 6,500 rpm's in 4th gear = 175 mph in my GT. care to explain this to me?

Either is speedo is way off and, or he has smaller tires. Also we all know about tire expansion at high speeds.

smaller tires would explain this then which would also mean that his supposed top speed of 220 mph was more like 200 mph assuming he shifts at 6,500 rpm's. also regearing the car and not recalibrating your speedo would create the same result as well. it just goes to show that speedos don't mean jack. get yourself a GPS and come back and play

Yes, GPS is the way to go. Freddy, congrats on the 200 in your GT. Is your car stock as far as the engine? How long was the pull to get to the magical number?

my car is bone stock right down to the gears and tires. it took me 3 miles from a dead stop to go 200 mph on GPS. my speedo was inaccurately reading 204 mph. the funny thing about this though is i hit 170 mph in 1 mile. so it took me a whole another 2 miles to go from 170 mph to 200 mph. at 200 mph you are covering a football field every 1 second :thumbsup

Aren't we a little negative here?

The speedo went past the 220. We all know there is some error, so maybe not a true 220. But when someone has pegged the speedo, that's awfully fast.

I for one respect it - I ain't going there :eek His coconuts are bigger than mine :wink

Freddy what boost level and octane are you planning to use with the Whipple? Do you happen to have a time breakdown of 0-170 and then the 170 to 200?

Why Freddy was questioning the speed was not just based on the speedo, but the tach too. The shift points appeared at much higher speeds than a stock car which is consistant with smaller tires.

enough boost to get me to 750 rwhp so i can go 220 mph on GPS (i will use 100 octane unleaded). this will bust 200 mph in 1 mile. 235 mph is attainable in 5th gear with the proper tires @ 7,000 rpm's. with 104 octane and a whipple pushin 850 rhwp i think it could be done. :cheers

I think 750 is completely in the range for the 3.5 pulley speced at 19 psi with the 100 octane. You probably will get more like 770+. That should get you to the 235 at 7000. My calculation agree with 750 hp needed for 235, but the more HP you have on tap the faster you will get there. The faster you get there the less chance of heat soak and a drop in power before you reach your goal. If you only have 750 the last few mph will chew up a lot of road! You are going to need one hell of a long strait road with good pavement.

Well you also have to add in the fact that between 170 and 200 you are going fast enough to a point where a mile isn't that much anyway. In other words it probably took longer to reach the first mile 0-170 then it was to go the last two miles 170-200 mph.

I think you'll need to run the 21 lb pulley on the Whipple to break 200 in a mile. I have the 19 lb pulley and was running 93 octane when I ran 190 at the Texas Mile. I could have gotten a few more mph I believe but I was tired of pounding on my car.

I wish I had a 3 mile stretch of good road nearby to run on. I really want to bust 200 before I die. (I just hope I don't die DOING 200!!):cheers

a vehicle that can achieve 212 mph with ~520rwhp should be capable of ~250 MPH given 850rwhp (with the appropriate gearing of course).

an accufab modified car with 635 rwhp went 194 mph in the mile in 27.2 seconds. this was done on a runway at Lemoore Naval Air Station in California. not sure what the altitude is of that location but i think its very similar to the Texas Mile in Goliad, Texas. you can read about it in the june 2006 edition of motor trend magazine.

It is because we raise rev limit to 7,200 rpm and on a dyno power still going up from 6500rpm to 7200rpm

The GT in the video is currently doing 640 whp w/ 18lbs boost, C16 race fuel,
and rev limit of 7200 rpm. I run 1st , 2nd, 3rd , 4th gear to 7,200 rpm and 5th gear to 6,600 rpm. Very impressive engine. at 2500 rpm torque is almost at peak all the way to 7000rpm and hp shoots up to 7,200 rpm.

Your test is very true, I run my GT w/ exit headers only 5 time to max speed and had the same result as you experience. It feels forever watching speedo climb from 180mph to 200mph that why I decided to go pulley change and total tune w/ race fuel.
