Fontana Road Course Testing

On Saturday July 26th the STILLEN team headed out to Fontana Speedway to do some testing on the infield road course. It was a great day and we learned alot about the new parts and were able to test out the new Michelin's.

The car handled alright with the stock wood (I mean ummm....rubber?) After the first session we decided to throw on the new Michelin PS 2's. This is a nice tire and has quite a bit more grip. These tires are a little bit shorter and quite a bit wider (two inches to be exact.) During the second session the car definitely liked the grippier Michelin's but it was having a little trouble rotating. So, we brought the car back into the pits and lowered the Penske shocks 1/4 of an inch. This made a huge improvement during the third and final session. Half way through the third session Steve brought the car in to make some rebound adjustments on the Penske's. By the end of the third session Steve was all smiles and is confident the car will be a solid competitor for the 2008 New Zealand Dunlop Targa Rally.

Some of the new goodies we were testing include:

New Racing clutch- 30% smaller and lighter than factory, "race-style" engagement.

Front and Rear AP Racing 6 piston brake kit with the brake bias moved 2% to the rear brakes. (not too much as others have done...:wink)

New Supercharger- Eaton TVS2300 blower

New Suspension Settings- Of course this will more than likely be adjusted during the rally to accomodate for current conditions.

New Michelin PS 2 tires- These seem to be a great tire and we look forward to racing on them through out the rally.

(Pictures coming soon)

Kyle,

Can you tell us the sizes you're using for the Michelin's....

Do you think this this an option for those of us with the stock suspension?

Thanks

Chris,

We used the 345/30ZR19 in rear and 245/40ZR18 in front.

We would prefer to use the Michelin sport cups (same tire as the Viper ACR) but we know that they would not hold up very well during the rally. Michelin sport cups are incredible tires and offer great grip. However, their wear rating is VERY low.

We did talk about using the Scuderia's however we felt that for our purposes (targa rally) the Michelin PS 2's would be a better choice. We might try them before we go and we might change our opinion but if I remember correctly we were concerned that the wear rating was too low.

What were the dyno results on the Eaton....why not Whipple? I am loving the clutch by the way that Tomy installed.
