A small group of us is coordinating a trip of a lifetime for this July. We will be shipping our FGTs from various cities in the U.S. to a port in the U.K. and back. While there, we'll drive to Le Mans for the Classic Race (about 100,000 are expected to attend the weekend event). Of special note this year is the 40th anniversary of our car's win (the Classic is a biennial). As part of the celebration, we intend to take a couple laps around the Le Mans circuit in our FGTs.

Following Le Mans, our preliminary itinerary has us driving our cars through France, Italy, then Croatia and back to the U.K. We estimate driving on the Continent some 10 - 12 days or so. There are many details to be finalized.

We expect to limit the number of couples/FGTs for this Le Mans Classic European FGT Tour to about 10. We may be closing in on this cap already. If you have strong interest in joining us, enter the Subscribed Members section (same section where you signed up for the Kip CF give away) and scroll down past Lifetime Subscribed and BonyWorld to Trip with Ford GTs to Le Mans and Onward.

Check it out ASAP as we anticipate putting down deposits on our Le Mans accommodations this week.

Cheers!

Two important items I forgot to mention.

First, we are an extremely discriminating group and are looking for like minded individuals/couples to join us (there may very well not exist any more such species). Those interested must successfully negotiate a gauntlet of tests and subject themselves to ridicule and humiliation.

With that understanding, you are naturally qualified as our exalted leader.

Second, this is not a Forum sponsored event.

How do you guys plan on changing underwear on a 12 day trip as the GT can only carry about two pairs of boxers?

2 boxers, turning them inside out, gives us 4 brand new wears with only 2 used wears per boxer and 3 days rejuvenation in between each wearing.

Alternatively, we'll have a chase lorrie carrying one suitcase and one carry-on per person.

The way to travel is to buy new clothes along the way and pitch them when they're dirty. You really don't need much luggage that way.

We plan to have the great folks of
Roush will man a lorry with spares driven by a tech and it will haul two suitcases and carryon's per car.

Regarding Monaco Historics, the roads are all closed. It has taken me as long an an hour and half to get from the Monaco Beach Hotel to City Centre Expo Plaza where Bonhams Auction takes place. The worst traffic nightmare I recall at any event.

Will the cars need to have European import homologation changes for the various countries? Or, as visiting vehicles, will they accepted for a limited time in each country?

It is sooo worth going to the Historique's. Traffic/travel/parking problems can be solved by using the excellent shuttle buses or the commuter trains if you are staying out of town. The Monagasque's are incredibly organized when it comes to auto races. Even my wife doesn't mind the commute...and whoa baby, is she picky.

'Ah, Mr Bond. We've been expecting you...'

A very stylish solution and one that ensures we'll be at our most comfortable at the casinos in Monaco... :wink

In my opening post, I mentioned that we'll be taking at least a couple of laps around the Le Mans circuit as part of the Classic Race festivities. These two videos will give you a sense of what this will be like. Below is in-car video footage taken by one of the UK GT40 club members I've spoken to our group about in my emails from the last Le Mans Classic event. The first link is one of the two laps with other classics and the second link was the commemoration lap with only GT40s (and FGTs) on the circuit. This was to celebrate our car's 40th anniversary of the first GT40 win and this lap took place immediately preceding the start of the main race. Hopefully, the organizers will stage a similar lap for us this year.
