I remember back in the 1970's a friend of my brother had a 427 Cobra in a single car garage with a dirt floor. Even back then we knew it was a very cool car, but it seems so odd now that this mechanic living in a tiny house had a car of that quality. The other one I knew of at the time was owned by a wealthy young man in Santa Barbara. A fellow student at Cal Poly owned a Ford GT40 around the same time, and another friend had a Mercedes Gullwing. Likely that a good percentage their entire life savings now is equivalent to what they would have by merely hanging onto those cars. Other examples of course, but those kind of stand out to me. Even my old Z-28 would bring some serious change.

How many cobras can there still be out there in a Barn? I would have guessed they are 99.5% accounted for.

Is there a story with this car? Looks like it was originally from this neck of the woods. :bored

I hope they do restoration work only for safety and reliability, and leave the cosmetics alone.

Story:

1963 Shelby Cobra (CSX 2080), estimate: $425,000 - $475,000.

With only two private owners from new and parked since 1981, the matching-numbers CSX 2080 is one of the most original Cobras in existence. The red exterior and black interior of CSX 2080 have been left untouched, but the car is road ready having recently undergone a complete mechanical restoration of its factory-installed powertrain.

Thanks Kayvan.

I have been hearing the "Cobra in a Barn" story since I was a teen (30 years ago). I also remember reading an article in a larger Auto mag in the 90's debunking the Cobra (or any collectible) in a barn story.

I just would have believed they were all located when the values skyrocketed. I know there was a huge search for the "missing" Daytona coupe several years back, but I thought they recovered that car too??

Hey 64c2vette,

I am in Santa Ynez also. You know Tom Petersen? Did we meet at the Mojave Mile last year?
