That's simply impossible. The Boss has an ancient stick axle out back, it's even made in America, blah, blah, blah. The M3 boards should be apoplectic about now.

Did the Gt ever get measured at Laguna Seca?

Not sure but if this is anything to go by this mustang would be biting at the GT's ankles.

The car went threw a big promo there with many old time racers and VIP's taking laps but I don't know the car made any serious laps for times.

That is not even the "laguna Seca" version of the car.

It's a press car for Motortrend so I'm going to think yes.

Ed, I would venture a yes as well. The regular Boss has Pirelli P-Zeros R285/35ZR19's. Good tires which have a DOT wear rating of 220. Most probably what was being used during the driving test as the Boss was not an LS version.

The LS Boss has Pirelli P-Zero, Corsa tires sized at R285/35ZR19 as well. However these tires carry a DOT wear rating of 60. No typo here, 60.

You can understand there is a slight traction difference here......

Data here from actually viewing both cars at the Chicago Auto show.

I honestly think this would probably be faster than what the GT would do at L.S same day same driver. Tires tires tires.

You figure if Gene is within 1 second of himself at VIR from a 2011 GT500 to a 2006 Ford GT, there's a good chance the Boss would be quicker.

+1, tires make a HUGE difference! In the Boss' case in this environment, no way any thing other than what it rolled of the line with would be tested, I would think. My question in the times, was if the GT500 tested, was equipped with the "performance" option, and the sticky GY skins.

Dave,

Speaking of tires, have you had a chance to try your spare wheels/Hoosiers out yet? I still laugh to myself when I remember you scaring the sh** out of me (in the right seat) as you ran the Ford GTs down in that Crown Victoria on race slicks at that track in AZ. If really sticky tires will make a Crown Victoria quicker than a GT, I'm sure a Boss 302 would be on better tires.

Chip

I want one!
I just got off the phone with my local Ford dealer. He found me a silver Boss 302 Laguna Seca
On a funny note I have spent more money at my Ford dealer than anywhere else!
I guess thats why the owner is so accommodating!
You could say I’m very excited!!!!!!

"The M3 boards should be apoplectic about now."

Not to steal the thread, but BMW now has the newest M car coming out, the 1 series M Coupe. Saw it at the Chicago Auto Show. Loaded, this cute little (and overweight) gem is north of $58,000:)eek). I know Ford has come a long way in build and material quality, and I hope the Boss can stretch that impression further (even including the love em or hate em stripes). I don't know what Ford can do to overcome the mindset that plagues almost all American cars against the Europeans of a quality and style disparity, but certainly from a performance stand point, the Boss 302 puts the competition back on the truck.

One of my best friends was over having a beer and he told me his wife thinks she is invisible in her M3, which explains much of the road arrogance here in SoCal.....The M3 can lay Golden Eggs out of its tailpipe and I would careless. That car does absolutely nothing for me. And before anyone talk about the build quality and fit n finish this and that, be prepared because I will unleash the dog hounds and post all their engineering F@#$UPS.

And as far as Clinton goes, don't even bring up the iPhone

I've only owned American (GTO, Mustang, Cobra, Jeep) and European cars (VW, BMW, Mercedes) in my lifetime. The 1 Series M Coupe has a base MSRP of $46,135. The M3 has a base MSRP of $67,550. These are crazy numbers. Years ago, I bought my 1997 e36 M3 lightly used but mint for about $29K, and my 2001 e39 M5 also lightly used but mint for $39K.

I definitely don't think $46,135 is cheap by any means. I was on the list to order the 1 Series M Coupe, but when I heard the problematic N54 engine was selected, I pulled out the day they called for me to spec my options.

Soon, if they keep selecting regular engines and throwing turbos on them, the M's are not going to be special anymore. I just hope I don't become bitter and full of hate against BMWs.
