Barring an original $2M + 60s GT40

For racing in NASA, FARA, SVRA etc does it make more sense to prep a modern GT for racing or buying a replica like the Safir http://www.gt40racing.com/GT40/GT40.html ?

Safir claims their car can b built for same $ as a GT40 replica but theirs is eligible for vintage racing & has better resale value

Absolutely what he said.

I have a Superformance and a Bailey GT 40 , both are awesome cars , however the Bailey is more of a purpose built race car . You can get the Superformance with a race package . I race the Bailey in HSR and sonn SVRA and run the Superformance on the street . They are both well price high quality continuation cars , here is a video from the mitty - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_ZtXPBDrWc

Yes, but they sell for a big premium over the Superformance. I think the Safir page overstates their "originalness" as I'm sure that the SPF cars are also given a P number in the continuation series and are also eligible for vintage racing.

Safir, and Holman & Moody, pride themselves on originality, although Holman and Moody also sell an SPF-type car also. CAV's and ERA's are other choices.

Not sure why are people referring to Pathfinder Motorsports cars as Safir cars Tony? They are SPF cars that Pathfinder massages. You can buy the same R model from SPF and have Dennis prep it. Who do you think Pathfinder goes to when they need to know something about the cars? When people come on the GT40 forum and ask about the FGT I suggest they come here. I would suggest if you want to learn about GT40s then go to the GT40 forum.

Not sure what your budget. The guys here seem to have a bit of expertise here. This did not sell over the weekend and is still available.

GTD has been out of business for some time. That car is an abomination and is not worth $50 is why it didn't sell.

Superformance cars are licensed by Safir Spares. Fran Kress has a nice one for sale that is very authentic and priced fairly.

If you want to take a step up to the next level then consider having Gelscoe make one for you. Probably $500-$700K but as authentic as it gets without being an original.

Do you guys have issues when GT40 is mentioned? The OP did ask if a race prepared GT was a good alternative to a 40 replica, right? By the way had a wonderful ride a little while ago in a yellow J out of Westchester.

I let those with the issues comment on that. Just trying to provide Hubbster some help with his search. Glickenhaus drives J6 quite a bit I understand.

I apologize. My comments were flippant. I enjoy many types of vehicles, though I bleed red, white, and blue Ford GT/GT40 and enjoy talking, looking, driving, collecting, anything car related.

Nothing to apologize over I like most vehicles also. I think I asked my previous question because someone commented about the vacation being over(Chris A). Well I better not post what I did on another site when one posted about Ford GT being one of his favorites. "Ten automobiles I rather own than a Ford GT"

Depending on one's mood on a particular day they are all my favorites really. Can go blunt force trauma ride(Rocky Balboa) or surgical precision of a Miyamoto Musashi ride.

I had a chance to drive many variations of the 917 over the years. I spent many laps in ones owned by Otis Chandler who is no longer with us. I'm not much of a Porsche guy however in the fall when I have to visit Bugatti and McLaren on business I do want to make a special trip here.

Mentioned in the piece is a 16 cylinder 917!!!!

How does that sound. Interesting place with all the cut-aways and prototypes stashed away.
