How do you find an original Gold GT40 - maybe a Mk III

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've been a fan of GT40s for 30+ years and I recently purchased a '06 GT. As a young boy (I'm 48 now) I was fascinated with all racecars and the GT40 in particular. In 1967 or possibly 1968, I spent the day with my father at his work, which was managing an aviation business at Mercer County Airport in Trenton, NJ. On that day, a man drove onto the general aviation area in a Gold GT40, parked it, got into his airplane and flew off. I spent the rest of the day admiring the car as only a young boy can. To this day I consider that moment was when I knew I wanted to have one some day.
I suppose that car may have been a street MK III, but I'm not sure. Does anyone know where I could track down if there was a Gold MK III ever built and sold into the NJ area? Also, was there anyone making reproduction in '67/'68 or street versions of MK IIs?

I have always been very curious about that car. Your collective wisdom would be appreciated.

ERA, Superformance and I believe another are making replica's of the Mark II's and III's. If you want an original I believe the last ones I saw went for over $1M.

Thanks - One is enough for now

I don't want another one, I am just curious about the car I saw in the 60's and what it was and who owned it.

Many GT40s were shipped unpainted. The only car painted gold at the factory
was P/1051. In Ronnie Spain's book, GT40 An Individual History and Race Record, page 250, is a picture and short history. The history indicates 1051 was used in the Ford UK GT40 sales brocher. I have a sales brocher and the color dosen't show a very pronounced gold color. Hope this helps.

Thanks 66GT40

Thanks for taking the time to research that a bit for me. That is helpful information. I'll keep poking around and see what i can come up with.

The look I remember

Neilda - That was definitly the look I remember. Now all I need to do is find someone who had one in NJ in 1967 or 1968. Thanks for the photo.

AZGT - And I didn't think owning a second GT was a realistic possibility.
