Nine months looking for a common part for a late model car? What's wrong with this picture?

A well known GT Tech has stated the following:

For the wheel bearings, order the assemblies from a 2003 Ford Explorer 4x4. Front and rear are the same.

Yes, I remember that. It's clearly a 4WD hub, and front and rear look identical by eyeball. Why is this stuff so hard?

It's sort of cool that they just used existing parts for some of the more common things, and I doubt they have an exotic part number just for the GT. That said, it would be nice to have a cross reference to the common parts. I know I went down to the local Ford Factory Outlet Center to get the little trunk liner retainer clips after the belly pan swallowed two of them (over a period of time). He looked it up and came back with a baggie with 4 and didn't charge me. he said they were used everywhere.

Hub and bearing assembly

The hubs on the Ford GT are NOT from another car, mounting flange is different, they are Ford GT specific. When we were building the prototypes we used a modified Explorer hub, that is not what was used in production. They have been on backorder since late last year. We have 4 accident cars in the shop now waiting for new hubs. RUMOR has it that they should be back on the dealer shelves in a few weeks.

The Gt Guys are absolutely correct. the hubs use a different mounting flange than that of the GT. don't know how that got started a while back. Shows off back order date late this month or early Oct. Not sure aboout the Astin hubs. never seen one.

Never stated hubs were off Explorer, just wheel bearings. Is that correct?

Look at the hubs listed here, do they look the same as a FGT? Is so the bearings may also be the same.
