i raced my '01 camaro SS last night and the Density Altitude was sky HIGH. on my 11.78 @ 119 mph run the DA was 5,650 feet above sea level :eek that pass was a qualifying run and my sixty foot time was a 1.89 (old slicks). my next run was the first round of eliminations and both me and the other car dialed for a 11.70 > i ran a 11.72 @ 111 mph as i let off the gas before the finish line to not break out and beat the other car. i think if i would have stayed in it i would have run a 11.65 :cool on that run my sixty foot time was a lil better at 1.77 > i weighed my car and it weighed 3390 with a 1/4 tank of gas in it. with me in it the weight soared to 3620 :ack

anyway, i think my 11.78 @ 119 mph would correct to a HIGH 10 second pass at sea level since the DA was over a mile HIGH. can anybody tell me what a air density calculator would correct my run to?

DragTimes.com has a simple calculation. Inputting your speed, time, and DA, this is what it calculated you at:

Stock and Mildly Modified Naturally Aspirated Engines
10.95 @ 127.949 MPH

Extensively Modified Naturally Aspirated Engines
11.14 @ 125.634 MPH

Extensively Modified Supercharged and Turbocharged Engines
11.427 @ 122.582 MPH

10.95 isn't too bad! :thumbsup

Very nice post MJ!

If you did not know about density altitude previously, perhaps Chip introduced you to the topic with his flying background. It is a topic of importance to us pilots, especially "high and hot".

Fast Freddy, very impressive times and I assume your Camaro is normally asperated and not turboed or supercharged.....

it is normally aspirated (500 hp). but i do have a 100 shot of nitrous that i spray about 100 feet out on the track. so now that i think about it dropping to a lower elevation track would not help me as much as i thought because 20% of my total power output is on the bottle. so with that said according to that chart MJ supplied us with it looks to me like my time at sea level would be 11.14 @ 125 mph. i have run a 11.45 @ 122 mph in Phoenix with a 1000 DA. so i know that it would at least correct to the 11.14 time.

i think all i need to run a 10 second pass at sea level is a trans brake and some drag shocks and removal of the front sway bar. i plan on doing that when i eventually put a BIGGER motor in the car (402 ci with 600 hp). then i will increase the nitrous to somewhere between a 150-200 shot. that should be good for 10 flat at sea level and HIGH 10's at my local track. i am still on the stock bottom end in this car which is only 346 ci.

Thanks Richard. its not as fast as your camaro but it does look alot like yours :thumbsup

i bought a 600 HP - 402 CI motor last week and it is being shipped to me this week. the bottom end is a LS2 Aluminum block with forged crank, rods and pistons. the top end has aluminum AFR 225 cc heads. the valvetrain is rollerized and the compression ratio is 11.2:1 > i am gonna run a Fast 92 mm intake and throttle body with just straight 1-7/8 Hooker headers that have the 3" collectors. no cats, no mufflers and no exhaust for me. that is just extra weight to slow me down. i am gonna spray a 150 shot of nitrous direct port too :cool

NHRA rules say i got to put a 6 point roll bar in with 5 point restraints to run 10 flat. my strange 12 bolt rear end is gonna get a spool and my turbo 400 trans is gonna get a trans brake. i think i can Lift the tires after that :cheers

EP - i am gonna try and pull it off on the 26" tall slicks i run. as you can see from the pix i posted of my launch i may have to roll the fenders and go to a 28" tall tire. if that happens i am gonna put in a 4500 stall and hang em high :lol

EP - 4.10 gears + 7,000 rpm's on a 26" tall tire = 132 mph trap speed :biggrin

4:88's with all else the same = guaranteed wheelies...if all the power gets to the ground!

('Course, trap speed would go in the dumper...:biggrin)
