Does anyone know the exact number of 2005 GTs that received the 2006 3 bar grille near the end of the 05 production run?

No I don't but do know that after market came up with an easily installed and removable version for the 06's. Apparently the 05 version was a bit of work.

2005 has a mesh grill. 2006 eliminated this grill. Was done for airflow. This is what the mesh kept out of the 1st Texas rally....

I knew a 05 owner that changed to the 06 specifically due to overhearing at high altitude

+1. I have a late production 05 and added a GTG grill to mine as well.

In the book "Ford GT 2005 - 2006 The Complete Owners Experience" there is a statement that reads "It is important to note that the complete supply of front grilles was depleted near the end of the 2005 model year run and at the time of this printing, the original grilles were not available through Ford. Subsequently all replacement GT nose cones had the 3-bar opening design used in 2006." The book goes on to suggest that the 2005 GTs with VINs higher than "approximately 1700" were delivered with the 2006 3 bar grille putting the number of cars at approximately 354 2005 GTs delivered by Ford with the 2006 "Nose Cone". I thought it would be nice to know exactly which VIN Ford actually started with. It seems they tracked the exact number of colors, stripe delete cars, what color brake calipers, striped cars, what type of wheels etc., that they might have thought to track the number of 05 GTs delivered wit the 06 nose cones.

I own an 05 VIN 1715 and it has the version 1 grill. I think Joey is right about around 1700. The doubt if the parts were used exactly in VIN order.

As DBK has mentioned cars are not necessarily produced in order of their VINs. Close but not exact.

I switched my '05 GT to the later style grill. It lowered my on track temps by almost 10°

My '05 is serial #30 but was built in the 43rd position. No one ever said why but I suspect it had to do with the color choice. White /blue stripe.

#29 is also White with Blue and it was delivered after mine.

There you go..... there were no real records but a comprehensive list of owners were asked based off of there vin numbers.
Give or take at the time it's real close
The point being made inthe book was that if you own vin 800 of 2005
And had no grillethe front nose could be popped and replaced being wary of body damage as ford never reproduced the grille
The Gtguys grill is great protection if it's a street driver as it's on my other 06
Racing is another story

Oh yes the book is still available and selling like hot cakes on Amazon
Just a plug :)

After pursuing the car for over 5 years that I recently became the owner of, I can honestly say that no other car has stirred my soul as much as FGT 2060 has. Loved these cars ever since the first day I laid eyes on them. It was worth the wait. Thank you for your taking the time to educate me.
