It was a real pleasure to meet Fred and work on his ultra-clean car. We had everthing layed out and ready to install and everything went on without a hitch. The only problem we had was that AlohaGT's (older) SCT device didn't want to talk to Fred's car - despite that we went through the divorce proceedings with Aloha's GT earlier in the week. The hero of the day was Torrie - sending us a very good Whipple tune while we had the car all strapped down on the dyno. Talk about "just in time"!! Anyway, the generic tune was good but there was (as ususal), room for improvement. I'll probably make a seperate thread about this including more details, but I think we have more or less perfected the process of doing a Torrie custom tune with Torrie being in the comfort of his own home... or is it that cat house or wherever it is that he hangs out!! We have downloaded all of the SCT software that has the ability to capture basically any engine paramter you want and datalog those during the dyno pull. Torrie sent us his custom configuration file to get the data recorded to his liking. We then do a dyno pull - collecting all of this information and, of course, on the dyno PC, we have the Dynojet file with the HP, TQ, Boost, and A/F data. From within the car, Ryan emails Torrie the engine parameter log and from the dyno PC, I email him the dynojet log. Then we sit around and bullshit for 5 minutes or so while Torrie pours over the data and tweaks through another tune to remedy any variances he doesn't like from the pull results. After just a few minutes a new tune file arrives via email. Ryan downloads it and then loads it into the engine ECU and we repeat the process all over again.
Quite honestly, this process worked very well. Admittedly, we all enjoy Torrie's company but this is a way to get all of Torrie's considerable engine management tuning expertise without the expense, time, logistics of getting him out here.
At the end of the day, the results speakl for themselves. 750HP and 700 Lb-ft of TQ and with a torque curve that is flat as hell, is pretty damn special. Congrats to Freddy and much deserved thanks to Torrie for the custom tune.
