Whipple Problems?

I've heard of frequent problems associated with the rotors coming into contact with one another and ultimately seizing up the unit (mostly on Mustangs but still the same 3.4 liter model). I am considering purchasing a Whipple, hence my concern. Can anyone substantiate this or has the overall GT owners experience been favorable?

I cannot speak for myself as I do not have one, but I have never heard a single Ford GT owner have this problem, and typically word gets around quick.

+1

I have a whipple and I have about 7000 miles on it, so far I have had no issues except the belt that comes with the unit may cause a chirping sound from time to time, usually when cold, then goes away when hot.

I haven't had any problems with my Whipple. It works GREAT! I drive the car much more than EP, but it still doesn't have that many miles on it less than 5K on the Whipple. Mustang owners tend to put more miles on the car than a FGT owner would. If the rotors bind and seized, IMHO the bearings probably failed. This could be due to a lack of maintenance on high mile cars. As we all know, you have to take web stories with a grain a salt. Bad news in magnified, and good news is muted.

I think a Whipple on a FGT is a fantastic combination!

I little slow today, are we?

It took you 17 minutes to respond. BTW, I know you never even thought about a Whipple, since it does nothing for your car when it is in the garage except to improve the appearance through the rear glass.

Joe 2 of my buddies whipples that were installed, the only thing extra was the NECK BRACE from the snap back:lol:lol:lol havent heard a peep on reliability issues:thumbsup gtjoey

I have only heard of this occurring once on a GT that resides in Monaco

There is one problem I know of

You will likely have to replace the rear tires more often:lol:lol:lol

Do we know anyone who drives less than EP?

We communicated about this off the forum and I will reiterate that a supercharger by design is extremely old and typically will have a long favorable service life.

I went on to share that IMO the weak link in the system is the 12 rib belt that they convert to a 10 rib; structurally it is fine however I have seen inconsistencies in them as cut and wish that they could get Gates Rubber or ? to create the 10 rib part number for them. I also shared that there was potential risk associated with the snout belt wrap idler pulley and then I quickly said that this was below my normal radar as such IMO a non issue.

Furthermore; the Mustang likely uses the same supercharger body however the snout aka drive assembly is not the same as such any comparison is akin to apple and oranges; meaning not viable.

Can someone else create a better mouse trap; likely yes however will they or will it simply be different?

Takes care

Don't let anecdotal evidence sway you....the Whipple is a great choice on the FGT. Had mine for a year and a half....no issues aside from worrying about passengers soiling my nice black leather.

Joe, no prob's!

Love it - run it - crank on it!

Never any problems

4k+ miles of roller coaster rides!

Had mine installed by Kendall before Rally III and couldn't be more pleased.

Have one on my GT and one on my JDM 5.4 Longblock F150 Harley.

The only problem is too much fun!

Enjoy.
