After ownwing my first super car for 2 months today, some thoughts:

-I can't ever go back to normal cars
-I might cash in my other classics for another super car (Heritage)
-If I ever need a daily car i'll just buy a luxo-coupe or vette or just rent long-term for weekends/vacations (ie, Escalade/Denali, Range Rover, or convertible)

So some ?s

-What do others own...as I am trying to figure for how many:
>this is their first Ford
>first super car
>first new car

-How many own(ed) the big 3: Lambo, Ferrari, Viper
-How many are pleasantly suprised how they have acclimated to super-car ownership
-Whats on your wanted list:

My answers:

First, congrats on the Ford GT purchase! Second, my advise to you is to buy that second GT! I am a chronic, addicted motorhead. I have thirty vehicles registered to my name - half are cars and half are high-end sport bikes. I have been a Porsche and Ferrari guy most of my adult car-buying life, and currently have a Ferrari 348, Ferrari 360, Ferrari 550, Porsche GT3, Porche Boxter S, BMW M3, '06 FE Viper Coupe, Subaru WRX STi, two Ford GT's (white and Heritage) and a new Saleen on the way. I have also been a Ford owner most of my life, and have a Ford F350 Truck, and Focus SVT. Now to sum it all up, my favorite car(s) are the Ford GT's. I am amazed at what Ford has designed and built. It far surpasses my expectations. I have also become an avid supporter of the community that this car has built. The fellow GT owners that you will meet will also surpass your expectations. No smug brand-centric cold shoulders here! This group is fantastic. All the folks I have come in contact with are basically car guys that enjoy great design and great execution. Enjoy what you have acquired and enjoy the ride (both literally and figuratively).

Oh, I forgot to mention one important point. My first car was an old used 1964 Ford Falcon convertible with a custom rust hole ventilation system. My first new car purchase was a 1973 AMC Gremlin Levi's edition, which also was soon customized with rust-perf ventilation. After the Gremlin died for good in 1979 I bought a used Porsche 924 and was hooked on sports cars. Soon kids were born, and the Porsche went away to make room for the van, station wagons, etc.......Kids are grown now. An empty nest is a good thing!

Tim, they didn't ask of the cars we "had" to drive. Much like your 64 - I had a 68 Olds "Delmont" 88 (orange in color as it is the only color rust comes in), followed by a 71 Pinto. :ack

Regarding the Gremlin - I heard Bony picked it up after you had it, had it restored and it now sits in his garage and leaks to let him know it's still alive :rofl

I am the former National Director of the Motorcycle Safety Foundation, former consultant to the Motorcycle Industry Council / Specialty Vehicle Institute of America and have test ridden the K1200S in 2004 for 44 laps on the Nurburgring for BMW. I've loved motorcycles all my life, and have been transitioning more fully into cars recently, which I have always appreciated. After much consideration/deliveration, I purchased the Ford GT, and am looking forward to this journey into supercars and learning as much as I can about performance driving. I will be taking the BMW Performance School in a couple weeks and driving the new M3, M5 and M6 at California Speedway. I love american (car), german (car) and japanese (motorcycle) engineering.

I have a family, and enjoy offroading, hence the ownership and use of SUVs, and the recent sale of the last motorcycle, after a couple decades of active riding.

How lovely to read of another love affair! Congratulations on the GT....

I've had a few interesting cars - Murcielago, Vanquish etc.... My daily drive was an XKR Convertible and is now a Range Rover supercharged (not the sport one) and I still have a couple of Astons.

The Ford GT is the most 'complete' (and therefore satisfying) supercar I've owned. Firstly it's how good it looks - I've loved that shape all my life and the GT is truly beautiful, secondly it's the heritage of Le Mans (which is, maybe, a bigger deal over here in Europe in some respects), thirdly the performance is ideal - a smooth rocket ship with incredible torque/muscle. There are a couple of little build niggles here and there - however no more than with Astons, Lamborghinis, Ferraris. The engine and it's components look better built (to my eyes) than Lamborghini and Aston - it's of almost aeronautic quality. I have to be honest and say I quite like it's rarity over here in Europe - you see more pink Rolls Royces than GT's!

At the moment there is nothing out there that I would particularly want - if there was, it would be in addition to the GT, not instead of. The GT is a most definite keeper.

Enjoy yours and drive it carefully.....!

I agree completely with Neilda. When I was a small kid, about 8 years old, I my favorite toy car was a GT 40 Matchbox car. It was white with blue stripes. When Ford announced that they were building the car, I had to have a white one with blue stripes. I still think of the car as the most beautiful shape in the world. It is a keeper!

This is my first supercar. No other Fords other than a Thunderbird Super Coupe years ago. I have owned a '61 vette that I restored, '90 ZR1 vette and now a C5 built by Doug Rippie Motors. The c5 is lowered, cam, pistons, long tube headers, 3" exhaust, super charged and 458 RWHP.

First super car- no. i count my 79 930 as super.

First ford- No way. We signed the franchise papers in 1917!

First new car, Goodness I can't remember!!

OK, I am not worthy!!!

30 Vehicles !!

Now thats respectable. I for one am raeady, to take life, career & financial advice from any man who owns 30 vehicles!

My sense from a lot of the folks here is they are:

-older and hence wealthier & wiser (many fools have lost fortunes)
-Many are entrepreneurs, small business owners, or investors (real estate, etc)
-Many know how to live well: reward themselves for hard work NOW.

I put together a list of 65 cars I need to own before i head for the pine box.

-The total cost is actually not that high given many are under $25K used.
-Space is an issue; note many use warehouses, hangars, or barns
-Owning what you love sure powers you on hard for a new day....

Happy to take pointers from any fellow owners!

This from AOL today. Having looked at this I see I'm just a 'car whore' and too embarrassed to post my collection. Do have 10W-40 in my veins though! :biggrin

I had a good friend who sold his business for around $400 million, he drove a 1988 F150 - his wife drove the "new car" a 1992 Buick Skylark.

Gordo.
