What to call the new GT

It's common for the aficionados of certain makes to refer to their model by the manufacturer's model number. E.g., "S197" for Mustangs of 2005-2009, W123 for MB E class cars of 1979-1985, etc. What is the internal model number of our 05-06 GTs and the model number of the new GT?

Oh yeah, I remember the W123 thing. I had both all of a 240D (76 I think), 300D (79, I think), and a 300D turbo (83 I think). The non-turbo diesels couldn't get out of their own way at 6000' in Colorado Springs, but that turbo diesel was pretty cool, especially when we got to sea level. And they were comfortable for a family of 4 and got great mileage. Probably the most PRACTICAL cars we ever owned.

Ford has already named it . . . .Ford GT.

Just as they did in 1964 and again in 2005.

GT-E/GTE is a good suggestion, but DBK's vote for PHX seems most appropriate (project name, simple and differentiated) for the car...especially since it is a concept at this point. Just my 2 cents.

dbk?

I would think this car is more of a pre-production car than a concept... concept usually means for show. They said this is a +/- 95% production ready car if I remember correctly... plus they have already said it WILL be built and sold next year.

I owned a couple of those too. The 84 TD wagon was among the most reliable, bulletproof, and practical cars I ever owned.

Sounds like "Phoenix" or PHX already has mindshare.
"What kind of GT do you have?"
"Mine's a Phoenix."
"Yeah, I have a Petunia. I want to get a Phoenix too."

With this definition PHX actually makes since...

PHENIX - or PHOENIX - definition of phenix by The Free Dictionary

A fabulous bird that after a life of five or six centuries immolates itself on a pyre and rises from the ashes to begin a new cycle of years:

The original GT40's are about 5 centuries old... and the new version has wings ready to fly and it is ready to immolate itself on it's pyre (Ferrari, McLaren, Lambo's etc)... and begin a new cycle of years!

And talk about a balancing act. There is nothing natural about a 5 cylinder engine.
