Is there a way to determine what number in the production line your car is? Maybe from the VIN?

Yeah, the last 6 digits of your VIN will get you either exact or close. And the '05 / '06 aspect matters too. For example there's a 400001 for both 05 and 06. So for an 06, VIN 401132 would be about the 1,132nd '06 car ... except ... it looks like Ford skipped some VINs in both years since the final 05 VIN I see is 402068 but they made only 2,022 05s. And the final 06 VIN is 402047 but they only made 2,011 06s.

If you want to tell me your actual VIN I'll use the chart of VINs in GTJoey's book to tell you precisely which # in the production line yours was.

Morning fun seekers......
Remember in 06 the numbers can actually drift further apart for two reasons
Heritage cars were pulled off the line and went to special paint and export cars to Gt101 or Roush in Germany
Throw in a couple of tungsten that the paint was uneven which went back for better matching and the numbers get screwed up pretty fast
That’s why in the book which are Fords official number , your vin and build dates don’t exactly line up
Enjoy that ride!

Joey @gtjoey - In your book the VINs starting on page 184, are they listed in order of build? For example: 2005 VIN 400035 is the 35th in the list, but the next row is VIN 400041 ... but was 400041 actually the 36th car built?

Or can this list not be used that way due to cars being pulled, re-painted, etc?

Page 197 of @gtjoey 's book, Ford GT 2005 - 2006 The Complete Owner's Experience, shows VIN 1FAFP90S76Y401606 is a 2006 model and was built 8/7/2006. And it appears to be the 1,571st GT made in 2006. And with his section of 2005 VINs totaling 2,023 that would make this VIN the 3,594th GT made.

(that 2,023 total for 2005 doesn't sound familiar to me, so I'll look more to see if I can confirm or correct that ... although that does appear to be the total count in this book)
